Great fighting rod but not a great spinning rod
    August 14, 2020
I have fought some good size fish on this rod and it handles it fantastically. This makes a great jigging spinner rod. It works beautifully for slow or fast pitch jigging but not great as a spinning rod. Its a rod that can also cast. The guides are too small and the fast action doesn't allow for enough mid rod flex to get a good whip that you need to cast a long distance.
To give you an example I can cast further on my Ugly stick 4' micro rod using a 1.5 oz deadly dick lure, by double then I can with anything with this rod.

Don't get me wrong. This is a beautiful rod that fights fish great and has the power to pull in 100# tuna but if you gotta cast far to them then this is not it.
    Pros
    • Strong back bone to fight big fish.
    Cons
    • Poor casting distance.

This rod can do a lot of work for striper, cod, deep drop, schoolie tuna, and bluefish applications. Feels very sturdy and worthy of bigger game, but is not a total pool cue. Love the grooved fore grip, also showcased in the Terez lineup. Very happy with this rod. The possibilities are endless.

The medium heavy 6'9" would be able to handle 3 oz's but there is the option for heavy weights in the heavy or extra heavy. Shimano doesn't list the lure rating on their website.

Hi Bob, Unfortunately the Shimano Tallus rods are unavailable but we recommend looking at the Ocean Tackle International TS2 Popping Rods, ( https://www.tackledirect.com/ocean-tackle-international-ts2-popping-rods.html ), the Jigging World Ghost Popping Rod ( https://www.tackledirect.com/jigging-world-ghost-hunter-popping-rods.html ), or the Shimano Terez Rods ( https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-tzs78hblk-terez-spinning-rod-black.html ). Hello, I will be fishing for 30 lb. striped bass in salt water on a river in a boat. Can you recommend a rod and reel? Also weight range for lures?

    Thank you,

    Steve Townsend

    1 Answer
For the rod, I would go with the Shimano TLS69MHBBL Tallus Blue Water Spinning Rod, which is the 6'9" MH model. For the reel, I would go with a Daiwa BG 4500 or 5000 size reel. This setup should balance well and provide more than enough drag and backbone needed to handle larger striped bass. Attached below are links to the products discussed.

What is the difference between the Tallus and the Terez line of rods? I am looking for something to pair with a Spheros 10000 for offshore fishing on somewhat of a budget and am trying to decide which i should choose.
    2 Answers
Both rod blanks are made from Shimano's TC4 material which is extremely strong and lightweight. The Terez has a significantly thinner and thus lighter blank and also features a full aluminum reel seat designed by Shimano. The Tallus a standard Fuji Aluminum Oxide Guide while the Terez comes with the the Fuji K Guides with Alconite Inserts, which are more conducive for casting braided lines.
Submitted by: Devon on August 1, 2017
The difference between the Tallus rods and the Terez rods are the grips with the terez rods are finger grip when holding the fore grip. That is a great feature. The Tallus rods are lightweight and definitely easy to use for extended hours. Very strong yet sensitive. For the application your using the rod for, I would pair the Shimano Spheros 10000 with the Terez spinning rod for durability and stability.
