Great fighting rod but not a great spinning rod
August 14, 2020
I have fought some good size fish on this rod and it handles it fantastically. This makes a great jigging spinner rod. It works beautifully for slow or fast pitch jigging but not great as a spinning rod. Its a rod that can also cast. The guides are too small and the fast action doesn't allow for enough mid rod flex to get a good whip that you need to cast a long distance.
To give you an example I can cast further on my Ugly stick 4' micro rod using a 1.5 oz deadly dick lure, by double then I can with anything with this rod.

Don't get me wrong. This is a beautiful rod that fights fish great and has the power to pull in 100# tuna but if you gotta cast far to them then this is not it.
Pros
  • Strong back bone to fight big fish.
Cons
  • Poor casting distance.

The rod is great enough for me to use for Striper and Rockfish. Also, strong enough for fishing Halibut. As right now am using for 3 setup.

TLS80HBBL - Excellent Medium Duty Stick
June 6, 2019
This rod can do a lot of work for striper, cod, deep drop, schoolie tuna, and bluefish applications. Feels very sturdy and worthy of bigger game, but is not a total pool cue. Love the grooved fore grip, also showcased in the Terez lineup. Very happy with this rod. The possibilities are endless.
Pros
  • Stout
  • Comfortable Grip

  • Strong Backbone

I have a 2019 Daiwa Saltist 5000, would these two pair

up well for school to possibly 100# tuna? I use 60# hollow

core PowerPro (over 300yards) and #80 Fluorocarbon lead.

1 Answer
For 100# Tuna you would need a reel with more then 22#'s of drag. But the reel and rod would match

What is the lure weight rated for this model? Can you throw 3 - 4 oz sinker with it?
1 Answer
They should be able to handle 3oz but there aren't lure specs on this rod.

Can i use a rod in the 7 ft range for vertical jigging and if so which one? Also which rods would be good for 50 plus lb tuna and other species such as mahi and wahoo or kingfish?
1 Answer
Hi Charles, I would recommend a Tica JKLB70301S Wasabi Blue Deep Jigging Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/tica-jklb70301s-wasabi-blue-deep-jigging-rod.html This would be ideal to use for vertical jigging for targeting Tuna, mahi, wahoo, and kingfish species. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

What model/size/weight would be ideal for tangling with bigger striped bass off Long Island?  I was thinking 35+ pounds and up.
1 Answer
The Shimano Tallus 6'9" MH would make for a great striped bass rod. The Tallus series by Shimano includes many well crafted rods and this one will not disappoint you.
