Bought this because of the sale but expected it to be a heavy bulky beast. Come to find out it balances on my popping rod quite nicely and doesn't seem that heavy. It ergonomically much nicer than my Penn Torque 9s. Can't wait to start poppin'

I am usually conventional reel guy in west coast. Wasnt sure about spinning reel. But contrary to my initial bias, it had more than ebough stopping power for yellowtail and smooth drag all the way through.
Very impressed.
Given less hassel of casting and with better casting distance with my older version of terez, i would highly recommend this reel.

Already have 2 Spinfisher V 10500’s and one 9500. They’re built like tanks and very reliable but definitely heavy. I ended up getting a Stella 30000 and it’s a quite a bit lighter than the penns. So far I’ve used it a couple times and it gets smoother and smoother the more I use it. So far a 80+ lb amberjack and it never broke a sweat.

I purchased a Stella SW4000XGB about a year ago On about my 4th time I used it, surf fishing for redfish the drag froze up. I lost a nice fish when it happened. I sent it back to the warranty shop for repair. They said I needed a new drag knob but that I would had an Asian model and would have to go to Japan for this part. As you can imagine I'm pretty upset after paying top dollar for a saltwater reel that breaks faster than anything and I get the run around on warranty support. Can you help me???

Hello John, JDM parts are hard to find in the states. They aren't impossible to find but it does look like ebay does have the drag knob for a jdm 4000 stella.

What does Power Pro Capacity mean? It looks like it is similar to the lbs./Yardage. I would like to know exactly what the two terms mean since they are featured side by side in the reel specs.

Power Pro capacity refers to the amount ofbraided line that can fit on the spool. The smaller number refers to the testrating of the line and the larger number refers to the capacity in yards.

The Stella SW lineup is considered Shimano's heavy duty saltwater purposed Stella. The Stella FJ is designed for lighter technical inshore applications and freshwater. Stella SWB was the version that debuted in 2013 and is now being replaced with the new Stella SWC. The SWC reels were introduced last summer in the 8000, 10000, and 14000 sizes, and Shimano added the rest of the sizes that are new for this year and debuting shortly. Link to the SWC version:

You are on the right track with an XG model, which is a higher gear ratio. That will allow you to work topwater lures effectively. You may be best bumping up to a slightly larger size if you are looking to be able to handle anything from an amberjack to a spanish mackerel. We will need more information to get you completely dialed in, and if you can give us a call we would be more than happy to set you up properly for your applications.

That is a little big, it would depend what you are jigging for. It is also a little heavy, so it comes down to preference and whether or not you would want to stand there and jig with the weight of that reel all day. But, as far as performance goes.... Than it is a great reel for fighting fish you would be jigging for.
