Not the Bulky Beast I Expected
April 1, 2020
Bought this because of the sale but expected it to be a heavy bulky beast. Come to find out it balances on my popping rod quite nicely and doesn't seem that heavy. It ergonomically much nicer than my Penn Torque 9s. Can't wait to start poppin'

Great reel.
March 10, 2020
I am usually conventional reel guy in west coast. Wasnt sure about spinning reel. But contrary to my initial bias, it had more than ebough stopping power for yellowtail and smooth drag all the way through.
Very impressed.
Given less hassel of casting and with better casting distance with my older version of terez, i would highly recommend this reel.
Pros
  • Easy casting and amazing smoothness
Cons
  • None so far

I already had the 30000, so when I saw the sale, I could not pass up the savings. Very smooth drag was thankful for the little extras that come with the reel. Has to be one of my best buys. Fun little reel!

Already have 2 Spinfisher V 10500’s and one 9500. They’re built like tanks and very reliable but definitely heavy. I ended up getting a Stella 30000 and it’s a quite a bit lighter than the penns. So far I’ve used it a couple times and it gets smoother and smoother the more I use it. So far a 80+ lb amberjack and it never broke a sweat.

Looking for a rod I can free line bait; as well as fish top water with matching it to this Stella. Thoughts?
1 Answer
Check out one of the new Terez Spinning Rods, the 7'2" Medium Light would pair up really well.

I have a ST CROIX LEGEND EXTREME INSHORE MH rated at 10-20# line. How would the 5000 Stella pair with that rod? Looking for a do-all inshore setup. I have the Med power Extreme Inshore paired to a 3000 Stella and it works out great,.
1 Answer
This Stella 5000 is on the heavier offshore/nearshore minded series of Stella reels, so it will be a little heavy for most applications with your rod. A 4000 or 5000 Stella FJ would balance out much better.

I primarily fish in Southwest Florida but occasionally go to the Atlantic side. I currently have Stella 5000 and Stella 8000 reels. I would like to expand my range for smaller fish and very large fish. Smaller fish would include silver trout, small snapper, speckled trout, pompano etc. Larger fish might include large amberjack, sharks, Goliath grouper, etc. What Stella reels would you recommend, and what accompanying Rods? In addition, what line strength would you recommend respectively?
1 Answer
A 5000SW with 30 lb power pro braided line and a St Croix Avid Inshore 7'6'' M or MH would fair well using it for trout, pompano and snapper. A 14000SW with 80 lb power pro and a Shimano Terez 7'2'' H would be a good combo for amberjacks, grouper and sharks.
