Not the Bulky Beast I Expected
April 1, 2020
Bought this because of the sale but expected it to be a heavy bulky beast. Come to find out it balances on my popping rod quite nicely and doesn't seem that heavy. It ergonomically much nicer than my Penn Torque 9s. Can't wait to start poppin'

Great reel.

I am usually conventional reel guy in west coast. Wasnt sure about spinning reel. But contrary to my initial bias, it had more than ebough stopping power for yellowtail and smooth drag all the way through.
Very impressed.
Given less hassel of casting and with better casting distance with my older version of terez, i would highly recommend this reel.
Pros
  • Easy casting and amazing smoothness
Cons
  • None so far

Solid reel

Already have 2 Spinfisher V 10500’s and one 9500. They’re built like tanks and very reliable but definitely heavy. I ended up getting a Stella 30000 and it’s a quite a bit lighter than the penns. So far I’ve used it a couple times and it gets smoother and smoother the more I use it. So far a 80+ lb amberjack and it never broke a sweat.

It would depend on how you're fishing it. A 7 foot Terez mh or H or the Proteus-WN Saltwater Spinning Rod heavy fast action

Would the 14000 Stella be good for Sharks, Barracudas, and amber Jacks? Would a different size be better? What rod would you pair with it? I'd be fishing from a boat.
1 Answer
At 55 pounds of drag that size would be perfect added with a good line capacity and paired with Shimano terez heavy or extra heavy.

Would this reel be suitable for casting to tuna? I'd like to stick with this size if i can, instead of going to the more obvious 18000 or 20000.
1 Answer
Depends on the size Tuna but the 14000 Stella does have over 55 lbs of drag which would handle most Tuna.

I purchased the Stella 14000 reel with 60lb line for snapper and grouper fishing. Wanted some information on a appropriate fishing rod to go with the reel?
1 Answer
I would have to recommend either the Shimano Terez Spinning rods or the Shimano Tallus Blue Water Spinning rods that would match this reel very well. Depending on the fishing you are going to be doing either a 6'6" or the 7' models in the heavy to xtra heavy would make a good pair for some heavy fish.

what rod would you recommend for Stella 14000? Snapper and grouper fishing
1 Answer
This reel would be fine for bringing in Snapper and Grouper. It features plenty of drag and torque to be able to handle heavy fish from deeper depths. It can also hold 240yds of 80lb which will be more than enough line for the fishing you are looking to do.
