Not the Bulky Beast I Expected
April 1, 2020
Bought this because of the sale but expected it to be a heavy bulky beast. Come to find out it balances on my popping rod quite nicely and doesn't seem that heavy. It ergonomically much nicer than my Penn Torque 9s. Can't wait to start poppin'

Great reel.

I am usually conventional reel guy in west coast. Wasnt sure about spinning reel. But contrary to my initial bias, it had more than ebough stopping power for yellowtail and smooth drag all the way through.
Very impressed.
Given less hassel of casting and with better casting distance with my older version of terez, i would highly recommend this reel.
Pros
  • Easy casting and amazing smoothness
Cons
  • None so far

I already had the 30000, so when I saw the sale, I could not pass up the savings. Very smooth drag was thankful for the little extras that come with the reel. Has to be one of my best buys. Fun little reel!

Already have 2 Spinfisher V 10500’s and one 9500. They’re built like tanks and very reliable but definitely heavy. I ended up getting a Stella 30000 and it’s a quite a bit lighter than the penns. So far I’ve used it a couple times and it gets smoother and smoother the more I use it. So far a 80+ lb amberjack and it never broke a sweat.

What length G loomis imx surf rod do you recommend for fishing light surf in San Francisco for stripers?

Anything 10 foot and up should suffice.

The 9' IMX surf rod would balance well with the Shimano Stella 6000 for the application the combo will be used for.

which stellas would you recommend for mackerel, mahi and smaller tuna ? I have a 18000 for larger tuna but want a smaller reel that is good for smaller type fish. thans

I'd say say the 6000 sounds like the ideal size if you plan on using a 30 to 40 lb braided line.

Are the spools interchangeable with SW models?
1 Answers
The spools are interchangeable between all 2008 and 2013 Stella models except the 30000. Drag knobs are interchangeable between 2008 5k/6k and 2013 5k/6k, also between 2008 8k/10k and 2013 8k/10k/14k, but NOT between 2008 4k and 2013 4k, nor between 2008 18k/20k and 2013 18k/20k. The new 8k/10k have the twin disc drag just like the big 18k/20k. -Alan Hawk
