Best Bang for Buck
February 14, 2019
Gotta say, for what I paid for this rod (7' 40-80 braid class) I doubt it can be beat. Have it paired up with a baitrunner 8000D and have used it to jig up African Pompano, Snapper, Kings. Pretty strong but feels pretty light in your hand with good action. I recently bought a competitors rod in the same weight class (to match with another reel) to save a few bucks and am extremely disappointed. Shouyldve just got another Talavera
Pros
  • Good Action, weight, but still solid
Cons
  • Needs a hook keeper, and maybe a stronger eye at the tip

One of my favorite rods!

A really nice rod with a great action, at a great price!.

If aesthetics are important to you, you couldn't find a prettier rod. It's a perfect match for my Shimano Thunnus C14 12000.

I bought the medium-action model for stripers and inshore fishing from piers and the beach, but I liked it so much that I plan to buy a second one, this time a medium-heavy model, to take to Florida for tarpon.

Can I pair this rod with a Diawa BG 5000 with 50 - 65 # braid.  Inshore bottom fishing and sometimes casting lures.
1 Answer
Yes, the BG5000 would be a good match on this rod and will allow you to do some bottom fishing, while also having the ability to cast lures with ease.
