Best Bang for Buck
February 14, 2019
Gotta say, for what I paid for this rod (7' 40-80 braid class) I doubt it can be beat. Have it paired up with a baitrunner 8000D and have used it to jig up African Pompano, Snapper, Kings. Pretty strong but feels pretty light in your hand with good action. I recently bought a competitors rod in the same weight class (to match with another reel) to save a few bucks and am extremely disappointed. Shouyldve just got another Talavera
Pros
  • Good Action, weight, but still solid
Cons
  • Needs a hook keeper, and maybe a stronger eye at the tip

One of my favorite rods!

A really nice rod with a great action, at a great price!.

If aesthetics are important to you, you couldn't find a prettier rod. It's a perfect match for my Shimano Thunnus C14 12000.

I bought the medium-action model for stripers and inshore fishing from piers and the beach, but I liked it so much that I plan to buy a second one, this time a medium-heavy model, to take to Florida for tarpon.

The talavera's are great rods but a Shimano Terez would be better suited for how you want to use it.

Would the 7,0 medium 20-50 be good for a 6000 sized reel
1 Answer
Joseph,

The Shimano Talavera Spinning rod TES70MB would pair nicely with a 6000 size reel like the Shimano Saragosa SW  or Spheros SW, for example.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Would any of these rods work well for sharks in the surf? I am looking for a rod that I can paddle big baits out with. If so, which model would be best?
1 Answer
Either of the heavy models should be able to be used for shark fishing, especially if you are paddling the baits out.

Will the medium rod up pair up well with a 4000 Shimano Baitrunner for inshore fishing for red drum?
1 Answer
The 4000 would be a good size for use with 30# braid and lighter. If you are looking to use a heavier line, I'd suggest stepping up to the 6000 to get an adequate amount of line on the reel.

I'm getting ready to match this rod up with a Shimano Socorro 6000, should I go with the 6 6 MH or the 7 0 MH. Thank you. I just purchased a Terez from you guys and I love it.
1 Answer
The 7' model would probably balance the best with a 6000 size reel. However, either length would be appropriate in terms of matching up with the reel. I'd suggest the 7' model if you plan on doing a lot of casting and the 6'6" if you are doing more vertical applications like bottom fishing or jigging.
