G.Loomis Pro-Blue high performance graphite saltwater casting rods are not your average inshore rods. With cork handles, heavy-duty composite reel seats, Fuji guides and blanks designed with dynamic, fast-actions, these are truly specialized rods. They're a blend of the traditional flats and bay rods that allow you to wrestle big fish without any distractions or malfunctions. You'll feel the difference. They may feel like lightweights because they are, but there's a power so intense and mystical that you'll wonder how G. Loomis did it. Their secret is your advantage.

Perfect northeast rod for a variety of fishing applications. I use it to throw heavy plugs for stripers and blues, deep jig sea bass and tog and chunk live bait. I have mine paired with a Calcutta D and nothing phases it. Super light, long butt section for tucking under your arm and strong as a telephone pole with a light enough tip for good action.
Pros
  • Strong
  • Lightweight
  • Versatile
  • Sensitive
Cons
  • A little expensive

Absolute Garbage!

I bought 2 G Loomis PBR785C rods. The first one one snapped in half the third time I used it. The second one snapped the first time I used it. Both broke at the exact same spot. I don't know what G Loomis changed, but I will never buy this trash again!

I really like this rod, I got the 902s on sale for half off and really wasn’t sure how it would be, but I’m really glad I got it! It’s light, has a good feel to grip and use, and has more power than it initially feels like it has. I was a little worried it was too light for snook around piers & docks but it has proven to be a great Rodger them. If I needed another rod I would get it full price.
Pros
  • Light, Power, feel

But I caught many 10-20lb yellowtails no problem!!!
Pros
  • Got strong backbone!!!
Cons
  • Rod rear handle is kind of fat

I was thinking of pairing this with either a Shimano Calcutta 700b or Avet G2 5.3 mostly for fluke fishing Long Island Sound and Montauk. Sound appropriate?
1 Answer
Either reel will work for that rod. The Calcutta will be a little lighter on your hands and the Pro-Blue is a great choice for flounder fishing.

The GLoomis PBR844C Pro-Blue Saltwater Series Rod would balance well with a Daiwa Lexa 400 for deeper water fluke fishing. Thank you for considering TackleDirect for your fishing needs.

This rod does not list a lure weight anywhere, even on the rod. If you let me know what you were thinking of using it for I should be able to let you know if it is appropriate.

What rod would you recommend for blackfish instead oft his one ? Same price range or less. Thanks
1 Answer
That rod would be a good choice for tog. The most popular rod I have seen so far is the Lamiglas Triflex. The rod can be seen here: http://www.tackledirect.com/lamiglas-tfx7030ct-tri-flex-graphite-saltwater-inshore-rod.html

Is this a good black fish rod ?
1 Answer
If you prefer a G.Loomis than I would check out the G-Loomis NRX 916C UBR Bass Casting Umbrella Rig Rod http://www.tackledirect.com/g-loomis-nrx-916c-ubr-umbrella-rig-bass-casting-rod-green.html http://www.tackledirect.com/g-loomis-nrx-916c-ubr-umbrella-rig-bass-casting-rod-blue.html But, if you are willing to look at rods other than G.Loomis than I would look for a rod with more of a moderate action, it is better to stick with a stiffer rod for blackfish. You may find it a little difficult to hook them with a fast action rod.

Is this a good rod for a Calcutta 400B or would the PBR843C be better?
1 Answer
If your using lighter line the 843c would be a better fit, if your using a heaver pound line the 844c would be best.
