844S MF
August 29, 2022
Fishing east coast jetties and piers with this and it is great for smaller blues, fluke and strippers. Fits in a Car. Paired with a 5000 Shimano reel and it’s a great combo. I’d say it’s sweet spot is 3/4 to 1.5 ounces. Anything over 2 ounces and I would jump up a size.
Cons
  • Money of course.

great purchase!

really nice rod made by g. loomis. i use it to throw 2-4oz plugs and lure which it handles with ease. The MF action helps get some of the heavier plugs moving while still reacting well to hookset. Pairs perfectly with a smaller size twin power SW for the inshore application i use it for.

Great rod. Strong, light, sensitive and fast tip.
Cast or troll it does the job. Like all Loomis rods a bit pricey but quality and performance are never cheap.

Great rod. not worth the hassle
December 12, 2020
Always been a fan of higher end, hand made, production rods. G-Loomis fits that description well. Having said that, DO NOT expect speedy warrantee for manufacture defects. It's great to have a sports car, if you get to enjoy it. If it's always in the shop, that's a bummer.

Warrantee defect on a rod after 2 months, and it's been with G-Loomis since Sept. with no anticipated replacement date.

Don't buy a G-Loomis, unless you want to frame it on your wall.
Pros
  • Great action and feel with plenty of pull power
Cons
  • warrantee replacement. Don't waste your time. Just replace with a St. Croix

What is the rod weight of the IMX-PRO 843C MF and can I use 20-60g lures? Can I use a 70lb carbon leader?
1 Answer
The line would be a little to heavy for the rod but it can handle 60 grams of weight. Weight of the rod is not listed.

I am looking for an inshore Spinning rod that will be mostly used for targeting Reds and snook, but I am curious how much backbone the Medium-Heavy spinning rods come with. Would it be able to handle smaller tarpon, blacktips, or Jacks? Rod will be paired with a 6000 size reel. Thanks!
1 Answer
Hi Nick, The G Loomis IMX-Pro Blue 844S MF Spinning Rod would be strong enough and have plenty of backbone to handle redfish, snook, tarpon, and small sharks. This would also pair well with many 6000 size spinning reels for your fishing application. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

What conventional rod would be best fit for fluke fishing Nantucket shoals. Dropping up to 14oz at times. Pairing up with Trinidad 14a

Hi Stephane, I would recommend a G Loomis IMX-Pro Blue 845C M Casting Rod. However since this is currently sold out I would also recommend a Ocean Tackle International FB56500C Fathom Blade 500g Conventional Jigging rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/ocean-tackle-international-fb56500c-fathom-blade-casting-rod.html This rod would be able hold up to 400grams or 14 ounces and also be ideal for your bottom fishing application. 1 Answer
Hi Adrian, I would recommmend a Shimano STC3000XGFL Stradic FL Spinning Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-stc3000xgfl-stradic-fl-spinning-reel.html This would pair and balance great with a G Loomis IMX-PRO 842S XF IMX-Pro Blue Spinning Rod for many saltwater fishing applications. Looking at an 8000 size Twin Power sw or Stella sw c but worried it may be too big? Would the 6000 be a more appropriate size?

Use will be as a heavy inshore/nearshore setup for bull reds, black drum, snook, medium/larger sized tarpon, sharks, and big jacks.

Thank you!

Hi Dakota, I would recommend the Shimano TPSW8000HGC Twin Power SW C Spinning Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-tpsw8000hgc-twin-power-sw-c-spinning-reel.html This reel has the power and the line capacity needed to bring in the inshore fish you are after. Would the 905C be a good pairing with an Avet JX Raptor spooled with 60lb be a good light weight outfit for bottom fishing red snapper and grouper?

This setup will be good to handle both grouper and snapper but I would actually recommend going down to 845C the shorter rod will be better.

March 22, 2021
What would be a better reel pairing with the 842 model, the stradic 3000 or the vanford 3000?
1 Answer
Both of these reels would pair well. The Vanford has 1+7 bearings and 20lbs of drag, while the Stradic has 1+6 bearings and 19.8 lbs of drag. Their spool capacity is identical and the difference in total weight is only 1.5 oz, the lighter reel being the Vanford. Its all up to preference, both reels are guaranteed to perform at a high level and are a great choice for freshwater to inshore applications. It really comes down to whether you want a black reel or a silver reel to pair with your G Loomis.

I have the shimano twin power sw 4000, I’m thinking of pairing it with the imx pro blue 844S F Med- heavy, what do you guys suggest do you think that would be a good fit ?
1 Answer
The Twin Power 4000 SW should match up really well with that rod. The Twin Power 4000 XD would be a little too light to balance out well, but you are on the right track. Let us know if we can help you out with anything else, that combo would be great for your heavier inshore and nearshore applications.

Some IMX and Terez models are similar, the Terez rods are better for heavier applications. Depending on what you are fishing for, where and how will help better determine which rod will be best for your application.
