Tsunami Carbon Shield II Spinning Rods are designed with Fuji K Guides with Fazlite inserts. Made with feather light IM7 graphite blanks with D16 nanotech and unique carbon fiber design. D16 Nanotech blank technology consists of multi-directional layers of IM7 carbon fiber that have been injected with nano resin and wrapped in 8 different angles which evenly disperse flexural force in 16 directions. This combination provides an extremely lightweight blank that resists twist and adds hoop strength. These rods make casting to, hooking, and fighting big fish as easy as it gets. Great choice whether you are casting soft plastics to striped bass in the northeast or using live bait for redfish and other inshore saltwater species in the south.

  • Anodized aluminum reel seat with stainless steel hoods and custom locking ring
  • Premium cork grips
  • Unique carbon fiber design
  • IM7 Graphite blank with D16 Nanotech
  • Fuji K Guides with Fazlite inserts

First, Tackle Direct makes sure your rod will arrive safe and intact. The packaging is superb! Next, the rod itself feels great - looks great. Admittedly, I have not used the rod yet, but I think if you are looking for a rod that won't fatigue you but has some backbone - this is it. Very light rod, but the butt has the strength. I'm looking forward to using it on my next Fluke and Porgy trip.
Pros
  • Light weight, but strong where needed. Color, grips - feels great.
Cons
  • Again, I haven't used it yet, but from what I see so far - no cons.

Perfect Rod For Inshore
July 16, 2022
I’ve been using these for a few years. They look nice with sea-foam green. They are sensitive. They cast well. They are strong enough for big Stripers and Mahi-Mahi. I matched both of my rods with Daiwa BG 3500 reels.
Pros
  • Cost, Looks, Sensitivity, Strength

Pros
  • Double footed guides, reel seat back stop lock nut.
Cons
  • Doesn't have a hook keeper.

this is a great rod, strong on the fish. i put bot an 8000 shield and a 6000 saltx on it. surprisingly i did not like my 5000 evict on it very much.

rod turns fish very well, but it did not like to cast anything over 3 oz even though it is rated for 4

Finesse with power
May 15, 2021
I have the medium light, it's perfect for throwing lures 1/4oz all the way down to 1/16th oz. It's got enough back bone to wrestle fish in the 20" range no problem. I have mine paired with a Shimano stradic fl 2500, added a geomexus power knob, the chrome reel and the chrome seat on the rod look really cool together.
Pros
  • Light and strong, looks amazing.
Cons
  • Lure ratings not exactly accurate in my opinion, i wouldn't throw anything heavier than a 1/4oz

I love these rod and have had great success with them. They come at a great price point and have yet to disappoint.
Pros
  • Everything.
Cons
  • The eyelets are very small for knots to ride thru but you get use to it very quickly.

Hi Jonathan, I would recommend a 10000 Saragosa SW A Spinning Reel. The Larger reel is needed for added line capacity for targeting Tarpon. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-srg10000swapg-saragosa-sw-a-spinning-reel.html This will pair well with a 8ft XH Tsunami Carbon Shield II Spinning rod for Tarpon fishing applications. Would a 3000 sized real work well with the 76M? Looking for a set up to jig for fluke from the bank/shore.
1 Answer
Hello James,

A 3000 sized reel would pair up well with the 7'6 medium. Depending on the brand you can go up a size. Shimano tends to run a bit smaller so a 4000 size reel from them would fit as well

Hi Chris, For your fishing application, I would recommend a Penn Battle III 5000 Spinning reel. Specifically model: BTLIII5000; TackleDirect Code: PEN-1859. https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-btliii5000-battle-iii-spinning-reel.html. Hello, would the 8’ X-Heavy pair well with a tsunami guard 6K?

And what is the total length of the cork on the rod?

1 Answer
David,

The Tsunami Carbon Shield II spinning rod TSCSHDII801XH will pair nicely with a 6000 size reel.  Either a Penn Battle III 6000 DX or a Shimano Spheros SW 6000 would be better choices.  The cork is 5" fore grip and 12" rear grip.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

What would be the best size reel for the 8’ XH rod?

Targeting KingFish off the pier

1 Answer
David,

Depends on the line of reels but you want to stay between 5000-8000 depending on the reel. Personally I would say stay towards the lower end at a size 5000-6000.

I recently purchased an 8ft xheavy version of this rod rated 1-4 oz. I went down to the canal and threw a 3oz savage, the rod made an awful lot of creaking sounds. I have it pared with a shield 8000 with 65 lb braid. Do you think that this rod can really handle that kind of weight on the cast? has any one there had any experience with the 8ft version of this rod? there are several reviews on this site of the guides or reel seat breaking. I was honestly considering returning the rod, seems a shame because they are talked about often.
1 Answer
Often times Manufacturers will over rate their rods when it comes to lure rating. That 1-4oz rating could really be 1-2.5oz, when anything 3+ is pushing its limits. Usually the sweet spot for rods lies in between the lure rating.

The medium will notload and cast as well as the medium light when using 1/16 oz lures. If 1/16 ozis your primary lure day in day out, you should go with the medium light.

What happens if you exceed the recommended lure weight? And also, what happens if you exceed the recommended line weight? And us there a rod size right in between MH and XH, like say a 76HF??
1 Answer
Like most rods, this rod can technically handle larger weights than what is listed, but once you get to that point, casting distance is severely affected and you'll have to lob it out as opposed to casting it. Line weight shouldn't be much of an issue as these rods are rated for braid and the highest lb. test is 65lb. test braid on the 8' XH rod, which is overkill and you'll really only need 50lb. test braid max in most situations for this rod. Unfortunately, this series does not have a H version listed at the moment.

I would recommend the 7'6 Popping version of this rod if you wish you pair with that reel TSU-0339.

The model above just had a bit more durable and upgraded rod components.

The VR175 may be a bit over kill for these standard models, but may pair with the 8' H model
