Scientists. Those guys want to take credit for everything. Well, while they're sitting around patting themselves on the back about ibuprofen, we'll keep making the world a better place by developing new rods. Like the Mojo Surf rods. Built from premium SC2 graphite, these bad boys are topped off with specialized, weight-saving surf guides with zirconium ring that sends casts off into the stratosphere. High-performance surf rods at a great value for folks who put it all on the line.

It's good

I've used this rod for over a year now, and I do like it a lot. I mostly use it as my bait fishing stick, but have used it for heavier plugs, and metal as well when the surf is rough, and casting distance is a factor. It casts the range good enough, but gets a little soft towards the higher end of the rating... I've thrown 8oz on it before, but I wouldn't lean into the cast as I'd do with lighter loads on there.... That's not really a negative as the baits weight does put it slightly over the rods stated rating. A couole things I didn't like was the fact that purchased the rod as new, used it, and later found the bottom, and top section to have different serial numbers on them, making the great warranty this company offers useless. The different numbers lead me to believe that the rod I recieved may of been a return, a factory mix up, or one of the refurbished rods they sell at a discount. Another thing I noticed was that the reel seat was a little loose, and that it did seem to loosen up on its own even when tightened down before heading out. I have a penn ssv7500, and when a big fish is on, I can feel the reel flexing in the hoods of the reel seat, and that is not a good feeling at all. I ended up having to use hockey tape for added support and security.
Pros
  • One piece feel with a 70/30 split. Throws the range adequately with Plenty of backbone to pull big fish out of heavy current, and rips.
Cons
  • Reel seat loosens up... Seems to hold some reels better than others.

Awesome Rod

Amazing rod, strong and confident.

Can cast anything from under 1oz to any huge bait on the market basically.

Pulled in big stripers and big blues.

But also sensitive enough to fish for scup.

It's a bit heavy, but once you handle something big, you'll realize why.
Pros
  • Strength
  • Quality
  • Warrantee
Cons
  • Weight, a bit heavy.
  • Inconvenient to transport (60/40 split)

Broke at the 70/30 split on 4th outing at the canal
July 27, 2020
I chose this rod based on reviews and St Croix's reputation, but rather disappointed with this rod as it snapped cleanly at the 70/30 split after hooking up on a striper at Cape Cod Canal. Rod is barely 3 months old and only used 4 times. I have this paired with a Gosa 10k reel and it easily casts to the middle third of the canal with the right lure, but not impressed with the durability so far. I have a warranty claim started - I'll post more when St Croix responds.

St. Croix stands behind their product

Bought my 12 foot 5 years ago from Tackle Direct and registered the rod. While cleaning gear, 3 of the eyes popped out. I called St. Croix and they are sending me a new top section. Very cool.
Pros
  • Excellent shark and big redfish rod. Pulled in a 150# tarpon too.

Love the handle
November 19, 2019
It’s a pretty slim handle to me, almost like im just holding the actual blank but this rod is a beast in the surf. Although I’ve heard of stories about peoples snapping on them they’re still great rods

I wouldn’t recommend it
July 21, 2019
It was great for the short time that it lasted. Unfortunately it doubled over on a cast and I’ve since upgraded. I would definitely recommend spending a bit more on an Avid Surf.
Don’t my experience steer you away from the brand, they have the best customer service in the business hands down!
Pros
  • St. Croix customer service
Cons
  • The mojo is the only rod in their lineup that I wouldn?t recommend.

Will the tsunami salt x 6000 pair well with the 10’6” mojo for stripers
1 Answer
From the specs that we've seen the 6000 saltX would pair very well with the 10'6 mojo surf

Hi which Penn Spinfisher V would work best with this rod? Also it says 20 lb line, so I assume that is braided line. Will 20 lb get ideal casting distance? Will 30 lb braid slow down the casts? Thank you, NK
1 Answer
You can get the 30 pound without hindering casting distance especially if your using super slick power pro(braid with a waxy coating that goes through the guides smoother increasing your casting distance)

Planning on pairing this 10'6" mojo with an emblem pro, throwing plugs and targeting stripers. Which Emblem size do you recommend for this rod: the 5000 or 5500?
1 Answer
The 5000 size or the 5500 size would be compatible for the 10'6'' Mojo rod. The 5500 size reel just has a deeper spool for better line capacity.

I'm planning on pairing this with a Van Staal spinning reel but not sure which size between the vs150 and vs200. I plan to mainly use it for plugging. Throwing sp minnows and bucktail jigs with the occasional cut bait. Targeting stripers and halibut and large surf perch here on the California Coast. What do you suggest?
1 Answer
Jon, I highly recommend going with the vs 150 it will be light enough that you will enjoy throwing plugs all day with it, yet strong enough to reel in what ever you hook up with. Its An excellent striper reel, and would definitely have the power to reel in a large Halibut.
