The Spro Power Bucktail is a beefed up version of the wildly popular Spro Prime Bucktails. The Power Bucktails are specifically designed to be strong enough to handle the largest trophy sized saltwater gamefish. This bucktail is built around an oversized Oshaunessy hook and is wrapped in a VERY generous amount of bucktail hair to give your jig that larger profile that the big fish want. The extra hair keeps your jig buoyant to allow for a more natural swimming action away from the rocks and debris along the bottom. Whether you are sight casting for a trophy cobia, hunting for that elusive 50 lb striper in the surf, or jigging over a wreck that could potentially hold the fish of a lifetime, this jig will rise to the occasion where others won't.

1 oz for fluke on the beach
March 2, 2022
i usually throw the 1 oz ones around while wading on beaches for fluke. i have even had scup hit them a few times.

side note, do not leave your gulp on it, they dry out and you cant take them off after.

i actually managed to bend the hook on one.
Pros
  • versatile jig

Extremely sturdy bucktail, bit expensive
September 22, 2020
This is a very well made bucktail. Lots of hair, extremely strong hook. I think the hook is what makes this bucktail stand out from any other bucktail. This hook can handle a tuna, but I'm not sure it's needed on a striped bass/bluefish lure.

All in all, I have 0 worries that this hook will bend out even on a monster bass. The fall rate will be slower from the dense hair. Happy with the bucktail, but the price is on the high side. A $5-6 bucktail will do the same job, but with a less sturdy hook.
I think a fair price for this will be between $7.00-9.00 (1oz to 3oz). This is the reason I knocked a star off.
Pros
  • STRONG hook
  • Dense hair
Cons
  • Overpriced

Spro Power Bucktail 2 oz - The Best Bucktail Jig for Surf Fishing
April 8, 2019
Spro took an already great product and ramped it up a bit for surf fishing. This bucktail jig has: a super strong and sharp hook, extra hair tied more securely to slow the sink rate and keep it off the bottom, and a super reinforced eyelet placed slightly more toward the nose which makes it ideal for surf fishing. Add a jig strip, otter tail, or grub trailer and the stripers wont be able to pass it up. I don’t give many five star ratings but the Spro Power Bucktail Jig deserves it. Very impressed. .
Pros
  • - super strong and sharp hook
  • - extra hair tied more securely to slow the sink rate and keep it off the bottom
  • - super reinforced eyelet placed slightly more toward the nose which makes it ideal for surf fishing
  • - fair price
  • - perfect for fishing the surf for striped bass
Cons
  • Would be nice if it came in more than two colors (preferably bunker, regular chartreuse, sand eel, or yellow) and had some heavier weights for those that may also wish to use a reinforced bucktail jig for boat fishing

Hooks are really sharp. Finish is amazing. This jig can get banged up on rocks and still look good. The size of the head is actually smaller than other brands at the same weight class. That can be a pro or a con; for me its a pro. This jig casts really well and the trailer keeper is a win.

Do a split ring and swivel necessary before tying fluoro leader?
1 Answer
You can tie direct to the eye on the bucktail but you can add a split ring if you like.
