These harpoons have great throwing balance and are easy to use. The weight in the head of these harpoons are removable. They can be used on Tuna/Swordfish or Sharks. These are cockpit and throwing harpoons. These Harpoons are made of aircraft grade 6061 T aluminium --one inch diameter and are sand blasted/hard coated with a special marine powder coat. They are fitted with machined marine bronze fittings and fitted with a 316 stainless steel shank. They have a special sealing system which allows us to use no pins or rivets in the construction of the harpoon. Its patent pending line holder for the harpoon which keeps the dart on the shank without the use of tape. This Harpoon was made and designed with extreme attention to detail and quality by New England anglers and harpooners who have a passion for Tuna fishing.

I would certainly suggest against darting a mako near your boat unless you want a toothy 400lb very angry fish that could wind up on your deck unannounced. If you came here for shark fishing gear for mako or other large sharks, GET A BANG STICK. In most places they don't consider them a firearm and take all the worrying out of dispatching those fish. Now for tuna and mahi on the other hand, these things are great. With a little practice you will be hitting your mark 99 percent of the time!

The only other item i would advise buying is the Shoals Harpoons Harpoon Line with Ball/Basket and you will have everything you need plus an extra dart.

What is the weight of the harpoon shaft, and does it have a place to connect a recovery line to it, can't see in the picture?

2 Piece shaft weights 5.4lbs combined. Top piece has a clip to lock in your return line, and bottom has a cable loop for attaching a carabiner.
