Shimano Tyrnos Saltwater Trolling Reels feature an open top crossbar design and Shimano's stainless steel A-RB anti-rust bearings. Other key features designed primarily for trolling are a ratcheting lever drag to eliminate any lever movement caused by boat vibration and a loud clicker with enough tension to hold large baits. Additional features include oversized gears for power while maintaining a high-speed 5.0:1 gear ratio, and an extra long handle shank with an oversized ergonomic rubber power grip. Shimano Tyrnos reels are constructed with diecast aluminum frames and graphite sideplates to reduce weight while maintaining strength and durability.
Shimano Tyrnos Featured Highlights

  • A-RB (Anti-Rust Bearings) these specially treated stainless steel ball bearings are at least 10 times more corrosion resistant than standard stainless steel ball bearings
  • Reduced Profile Top Crossbar provides excellent line control when dropping back baits or lures when trolling
  • Single, High speed 5.0:1 gear ratio (TYR20 & TYR30 only)

  • Diecast Aluminum frame for strength and durability
  • Oversized handle shank for increased torque

Great Reel at a Great Price
February 7, 2022
Didn't really want to go all out and spend a ton of money on a bunch of Talicas or Tiagras. This is a great compromise. Handle is extremely comfortable, drag is smooth, and I feel a lot better having a metal housing, which is why I skipped past the TLD and went with the Tyrnos. I use these reels for trolling and they've proven to be great reels for the money.

Solid reel
June 14, 2021
This reel is solid, two speed reel can manage almost anything offshore you throw at it. From Tuna to Wahoo, Marlin and everything in between. Paired with a 30-65 rod, 65 braid with a 50 mono topshot is the ticket!!
Pros
  • Smooth Shimano drag
Cons
  • A little heavy but then again what solid trolling reel isnt??

TLD upgrade
May 18, 2019
Bought this over a TLD 30II, same drag pressure, slightly different gear ratio than the TLD. For $60 more dollars to have a metal body reel with the same performance features of a TLD. Waiting for the wind to die down so I can try to out.

Great all-around reel
December 24, 2016
I bought the Shimano Tyrnos for the bluefin/yellowfin tuna bite that's been happening off Southern California and I was very pleased with this reel. Simple enough by design, strong and powerful it works well with flylining bait and is a good caster. Had a chance to jig some flatfalls and the reel is very functional and smooth in this regard.

Tyrnos 12
December 20, 2013
I have the Tynos 12, and it's a nice reel. It's pretty heavy, but it definately has some power and a nice drag. It also casts pretty well for a reel of that size, but personally, I mostly use it when its in a rod holder most of the day while trolling niner rigs for stripers.
Cons
  • very loud when reeling

Hi, I'm interested in buying the Shimano Tyrnos 20 2 Speed but I'm not sure what rod I should match with it. Any recommendations?

Hello Mitch. Please feel free to give on of our product specialists a call and we will be more than happy to get you set right up!
