Shimano Tyrnos Saltwater Trolling Reels feature an open top crossbar design and Shimano's stainless steel A-RB anti-rust bearings. Other key features designed primarily for trolling are a ratcheting lever drag to eliminate any lever movement caused by boat vibration and a loud clicker with enough tension to hold large baits. Additional features include oversized gears for power while maintaining a high-speed 5.0:1 gear ratio, and an extra long handle shank with an oversized ergonomic rubber power grip. Shimano Tyrnos reels are constructed with diecast aluminum frames and graphite sideplates to reduce weight while maintaining strength and durability.
  • A-RB Bearings (Anti-Rust Bearings)
  • Topless Design (8II, 10II, 12II and 16II only)
  • Reduced Profile Top Crossbar (20II, 30II,50IILRS only)

Great Reel at a Great Price
    February 7, 2022
Didn't really want to go all out and spend a ton of money on a bunch of Talicas or Tiagras. This is a great compromise. Handle is extremely comfortable, drag is smooth, and I feel a lot better having a metal housing, which is why I skipped past the TLD and went with the Tyrnos. I use these reels for trolling and they've proven to be great reels for the money.

    TLD upgrade
    May 18, 2019
Bought this over a TLD 30II, same drag pressure, slightly different gear ratio than the TLD. For $60 more dollars to have a metal body reel with the same performance features of a TLD. Waiting for the wind to die down so I can try to out.

    Great all-around reel
    December 24, 2016
I bought the Shimano Tyrnos for the bluefin/yellowfin tuna bite that's been happening off Southern California and I was very pleased with this reel. Simple enough by design, strong and powerful it works well with flylining bait and is a good caster. Had a chance to jig some flatfalls and the reel is very functional and smooth in this regard.

    Tyrnos 12
    December 20, 2013
I have the Tynos 12, and it's a nice reel. It's pretty heavy, but it definately has some power and a nice drag. It also casts pretty well for a reel of that size, but personally, I mostly use it when its in a rod holder most of the day while trolling niner rigs for stripers.
    Cons
    • very loud when reeling

Can it be used for fresh water MAsheer fishing in rivers using lures?? Or should I choose another reels
    1 Answer
From what I gather on the MAsheer this reel would be way to big but if you want to stay with convetional setups the Shimano torium 16hga would be a good choice.Another reel I would look at would be the Shimano tranX 500hg

If i was looking at a shimano tyranos 30 for tuna fishing in the Hudson Canyon(both trolling and jigging) what kind of rod would you recommend i pair this with.
    1 Answer
The Shimano TYR30II Tyrnos Fishing Reel would be a good reel for trolling in at the Husdon Canyon for tuna. The Shimano Terez Casting and the Shimano Tallus Bluewater Casting rods would be great rods to pair with the Shimano TYR30II Tyrnos Fishing Reel. Thank you for considering TackleDirect for your fishing needs.

would this reel be a recommendation for striped marlin and/or mahi or is there a better choice
    1 Answer
The Tyrnos 20II will work for Striped Marlin and Mahi. However, the Talica 16II would be perfect. It has plenty of line capacity, more drag than the Tyrnos, and weighs 12oz less.

    Sean
    from Farmingdale, NY asked:

Sorry one more question if you do not mind. This would be my first Lever Drag Reel. Is the drag weight determined by the maximum drag of the reel by 20-30%? Or is it 20-30% of the weight of the line being used? I would tend to think the latter. Just wanted to be sure. Thank you for your time.
    1 Answer
The drag used is generally set at 1/3 of the breaking strength of the line within reason and capacities of reel and rod.

The Trynos 30 will hold 300+ yds of 50lb mono line. We do not have any pieces of flourocarbon, but if you buy a spool we can attach the leader for you.
