The Shimano Ultegra 4000XG FB Spinning Reel is a part of Shimano's new Ultegra Series spinning reels that include X-Ship technology for increased smoothness and efficiency, a HAGANE Gear for incredible smoothness and durability, Aero Wrap Oscillation for longer casting and perfect line winding, and CoreProtect for water resistance without that heavy rotation feeling. These features work together to create a reel that responds quickly and positively in a wide variety of fishing situations.

The HAGANE Gear is produced by applying nearly 200 tons of pressure to the raw metal. This technology is unlike any other in the world, and requires no cutting work, forging a high-precision gear with micron accuracy in a single process.

This reel is a great option for folks that don't want to spend the extra cash for a Stradic. Support smooth retrieve and very little start up inertia giving it the feel of a high end feel at halfthe cost.

Is the Ultegra 4000 XT OK for saltwater
1 Answer
The reel can be used in light saltwater applications, just remember the reel is not sealed so it should not be submerged

I have a Shimano 8’ medium action inshore fishing rod that I will be using on Florida’s West coast primarily for casting 5/8 to1oz lures. Is the Shimano ultegra 4000 the best size for this rod or should I go up or down one level to the 5000 or 3000 reel
1 Answer
With a 8 foot rod either the 4000 or the 5000 would pair nicely the 5000 just has a faster retrieve, same line capacity and reel weight.
