Upgrading the renowned Trevala rod family with some of Shimano's most advanced rod technologies, the Shimano Trevala PX Jigging Spinning Rods are a versatile series built for premium performance. A name that has become synonymous with offshore jigging, the Trevala series quickly became a staple among vertical jigging and bottom fisherman after it brought the revolutionary Butterfly Jig system to the United States many years ago. Now incorporating technologies that were previously exclusive to top-of-the-line Shimano rod series, the Trevala PX seeks to continue the legacy in dominant fashion. Built on blanks featuring Hi-Power X reinforcing technology, the Trevala PX increases overall strength and responsiveness while keeping the rod blank lightweight and comfortable to fish. The Hi-Power X blank is built with an outer layer of carbon tape that tightly winds the blank diagonally in opposite directions, resulting in enhanced torsional rigidity to reduce twist and ovalization while jigging or fighting fish. Fitted with only premium components, these rods feature Shimano CI4+ reel seats for supreme comfort and sensitivity. The rod blanks are wrapped with SeaGuide XQG and XOG guides with Zirconia inserts for optimal durability and line management with braided lines. With a diverse array of lengths, powers, and handle configurations to choose from, there will surely be a model to fit your personal preferences. Whether you plan on using it to jig Northeastern fluke and seabass, fish the diverse Florida reefs, or battle giant pelagics around the globe, the Trevala PX is a must-have for your arsenal of rods.

Quality rod

I picked this up to pair with the dawai eliminator as a spare rod for jigging tuna. It's light weight with a strong backbone and good action overall. For the price point I don't think you're getting a much better option.

Unbelievable what a rod.
July 8, 2021
I bought one of these and I have a gofplf cart with rod holders on the back. I came back from fishing and backed the cart into my low garage door. A tsunami and a trevala on the back. The tsunami carbon shield broke in 4 pieces, the trevala ox didn’t get even a scratch. Both rods were bend over badly when I did this and before could get out and try to do something the tsunami gave way.
Pros
  • Takes a beating and comes out a winner
  • Great light weight rod.
Cons
  • None that I can tell

Great Rods
December 26, 2020
Purchased 2 of these rods recently (TVXFS66H) and so far they are great rods. I own some older Shimano Trevalas that have never disappointed me and these are built even better. The only downside I have found is that the PX series doesn't have a hook keeper like my old Trevalas do.
Pros
  • Lightweight, powerful, tough, and still have a sensitive tip.
Cons
  • No hook keeper on a $200 rod?

I Like This A Lot
December 5, 2020
Bought this to replace a rod I accidentally broke. I love the weight, the power, the length, and the look. One of my new favorites. Sensitive, paired with a Daiwa 4000D-C and 30 or 50lb Power Pro. Get one.
Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Strong
  • Attractive coloration
Cons
  • None.....yet.

Recommendation for jigging in Isla  Mujeres and surrounding area. Will be jigging 1000 plus feet. Also use for top water poppers. Prefer an avet
1 Answer
Hi Ivan, Based on your fishing application I would recommend a Daiwa SLTGJ70HB Saltiga Jigging Conventional Rod. This would pair well with a Avet HXJ 5/2 MC Raptor Two-Speed Lever Drag Casting Reels. https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-sltgj70hb-saltiga-jigging-conventional-rod.htmlhttps://www.tackledirect.com/avet-hxj-52-mc-raptor-two-speed-lever-drag-casting-reel.html This combo would be ideal for both jigging and also casting lures for a variety of offshore species. have a slammer 4500 looking to match one of these rods for inshore jigging and alittle casting of the larger topwaters. any suggestions on legnth/power?

also whats the idea/ benafit of split grip vs full? thank you

1 Answer
Hi Keenan, Based on your fishing application I would go with a 6ft - 7ft Medium Heavy action rod. I would specifically recommend a Shimano TVXFS66MH Trevala PX Jigging Spinning Rod. This would be great for working top water lures and have a strong enough backbone to jig effectively and have enough power to bring in species like stripers and bluefish. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-tvxfs66mh-trevala-px-jigging-spinning-rod.html Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. With the 7ft mh how heavy could i go with poppers and lures? Which version of the trevala is better suited for jigging and topwater casting?
1 Answer
Hi Timothy, The Shimano Trevala PX series are meant to be used as jigging rods but can also be used for bottomfishing and other applications. The Shimano TVXSS70MH Trevala PX Jigging Spinning Rod has a max weight rating of 200grams. Any lures could be used with this that are 200grams or under. However, I would also recommend the Shimano TVXFS66M Trevala PX Jigging Spinning Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-tvxfs66m-trevala-px-jigging-spinning-rod.html This rod is 6'6" in length and would also be ideal for casting small lures and jigging applications. Are these rods regular jigging rods or slow jigging rods? Are they Versatile enough to be used to cast topwater lures?
1 Answer
Hi Timothy, The Shimano Trevala PX Jigging Spinning Rods are traditional vertical jigging rods. These are not considered slow pitch jigging rods but are very versatile and can be used to cast top water lures for various saltwater species. Would you recommend any of the shimano trevala rods for rod fishing using up to 16oz sinkers?

Thinking about pairing it with an avet

1 Answer
Hi Tyler, Unfortunately the heaviest model of the Shimano Trevala PX Jigging Spinning rods: TVXFS58XXH; TD Code: SHM-4079 is rated up to 350grams or just over 12oz of weight. I would recommend a Ocean Tackle International FB56500S Fathom Blade 500g Spinning Rod. Specifially model: OTI-FB56500S. https://www.tackledirect.com/ocean-tackle-international-fb56500s-fathom-blade-spinning-rod.html. This rod is rated up to 500grams or 17oz and would be great for Jigging applications. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Would like to pair this rod with a 10k saragosa for the inshore tuna jigging we get off of the nj coast do you reccomend this rod and if so what size
1 Answer
Mike,

The Shimano Saragosa SW 10000 will pair well with the Shimano Trevala PX jigging rod.  Depending on what pound braid and/or what ounce jig your looking to use, either the TVXFS58H or the TVXFS58XH will work for what your looking to do.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Gonna pair this rod with a Saragosa 6k for my first

Higher-end setup. I’m just wondering what rod to pair

It with for inshore bottom fishing/jigging. Leaning

Towards the XH at the moment, but open to any

Suggestions. Thanks

1 Answer
Carson,

The Shimano Trevala PX XH will pair with the Saragosa 6000,  but that might be a bit heavy for what you are looking to do with it.  Another recommendation would be the Trevala PX TVXSS63MH (split grip) or the TVXFS66MH (full grip) with the Saragosa 6000 for inshore fishing.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

I am trying to decide between the Shimano TVXSS63M Trevala PX, and the Maxel OMGS 661-1540 OceanMax Gold. I plan on using 30lb braid with the Shimano FL5000, primarily

for Rockfish in Monterey Bay, CA. I have limited experience fishing in the ocean so would like your opinion on this setup. Thanks you.

1 Answer
Both rods would suit your application and reel well. Since you are new to ocean fishing, I would suggest the Maxel simply because it is slightly more affordable, and gives great bang for your buck. It has great reviews and will handle your 30lb braided line well. If you aren't opposed to spending a little more, you will definitely be happy with the consistent and renowned quality of Shimano. Good luck!
