Upgrading the renowned Trevala rod family with some of Shimano's most advanced rod technologies, the Shimano Trevala PX Jigging Casting Rods are a versatile series built for premium performance. A name that has become synonymous with offshore jigging, the Trevala series quickly became a staple among vertical jigging and bottom fisherman after it brought the revolutionary Butterfly Jig system to the United States many years ago. Now incorporating technologies that were previously exclusive to top-of-the-line Shimano rod series, the Trevala PX seeks to continue the legacy in dominant fashion. Built on blanks featuring Hi-Power X reinforcing technology, the Trevala PX increases overall strength and responsiveness while keeping the rod blank lightweight and comfortable to fish. The Hi-Power X blank is built with an outer layer of carbon tape that tightly winds the blank diagonally in opposite directions, resulting in enhanced torsional rigidity to reduce twist and ovalization while jigging or fighting fish. Fitted with only premium components, these rods feature Shimano CI4+ reel seats for supreme comfort and sensitivity. The rod blanks are wrapped with SeaGuide XQG and XOG guides with Zirconia inserts for optimal durability and line management with braided lines. With a diverse array of lengths, powers, and handle configurations to choose from, there will surely be a model to fit your personal preferences. Whether you plan on using it to jig Northeastern fluke and seabass, fish the diverse Florida reefs, or battle giant pelagics around the globe, the Trevala PX is a must-have for your arsenal of rods.

I paired this rod with conventional Shimano Speeds master 16II, 2-speed reel and caught 2 big striped bass 45 pound fish, it handled very well, I hope it can handle yellowfin tuna between 1500 pounds, but that I didn’t try it yet.

Very powerful rod, handles 50lbs fish like nothing. Guides are beautiful and has same diameter overall from first guide to tip.
Cons
  • Thought it might’ve been lighter than the “F” model. Maybe the less powerful rating rods.

Can these rods be used for trolling artificials or bottom fishing or live lining? Im wondering if I could use them for Cobia on the Chesapeake. Would any of the models pair with a Seigler LGN?
1 Answer
Hi Silas, The Shimano Trevala PX Jigging Casting Rods are specifically designed for vertical jigging but can also be used for bottom fishing application and live bait fishing applications. These would not be ideal for trolling. Instead I would recommend a Shimano TLC70HSBBLA Tallus Trolling Slick Butt Ring Guided Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-tlc70hsbbla-tallus-trolling-slick-butt-ring-guided-rod.html This would be great for trolling applications. Hello,

I would like to use it with my Accurate two speed reel.does it work with it ? My main thing is slow jigging with 200 gr lure. also need slow jigs ( for red snapoer, dentex and  groupper) . which are your favorite and what is your recomendation

Thank you from now

1 Answer
Hi Mehmet, The Shimano Trevala PX Jigging Casting rods are made more for fast vertical jigging. For your application I would recommend a slow pitch jigging rod such as the Ocean Tackle International Pitch Black Slow Pitch Jigging Rod series. https://www.tackledirect.com/ocean-tackle-international-pitch-black-slow-pitch-jigging-rods.html These would all would fit your accurate reel and would work well with some OTI slow pitch jigs for many saltwater species for slow pitch jigging. https://www.tackledirect.com/ocean-tackle-international-slow-pitch-jigs.html Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. I am curious if the SHM-4071 would pair well with an Avet SXJ MC Raptor for both inshore and offshore trips. Figure a shorter rod would be better for balance and less fatigue and the 300g rating is appealing since we usually jig up to 10oz.
1 Answer
William,

The Shimano Trevala PX Jigging rod TVXFC58H will pair nicely with the Avet SXJ G2 6/4 MC Raptor for inshore and offshore fishing trips targeting fish up to 30/40lbs and jigs to 250g.  If you are looking to fish with 250+g jigs then the Trevala TVXFC58XH and the Avet SX G2 6/4 MC Raptor would be a better combo.  Please let us know if you have anything else we can assist you with.

What size would pair with a penn slammer 3 5500
1 Answer
Michael,

You will want to check out the Trevala PX Spinning Rods instead of these that are meant for conventional style reels.

https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-trevala-px-jigging-spinning-rods.html

The TVXSS63MH, TVXSS66MH, or TVXSS70MH would be your best options if pairing up with a 5500 series Slammer III reel.

Which of the trevala px rods would you recommend for blackfish & Black Sea bass in depths up to 80’? Would it be good for bucktailing fluke also?
1 Answer
I would recommend the Shimano TVXSC70M Trevala PX Jigging Casting Rod since Tautog and Black Sea Bass are hard fighters you'll want a rod with a little back bone to get them up to the surface. This will also double great as a bucktailing rod for fluke.

This rod is not acid wrapped, it has all guides on top in line with the reel.

Just bought the Trevala PX TVXSC70M.  Will be a "do everything rod" on my sportfisher.  90% use will be light/medium bottom fishing..  Also occasional light jigging or rarely as a live bait flat line.  Prob using 40# braid w fluoro topshot.  Can I get a recommendation for both a moderately and high price reel option?  Maybe in both single and 2 speeds...
1 Answer
A great choice for a moderately priced reel would be the Shimano TOR14HGA Torium Star Drag Conventional Reel. These reels are smaller, but very strong and have a lot of torque for their size, which would make a fun pairing with that Trevala. A higher priced option would be the Accurate TX-300X Tern Twin Star Drag Reel or the Accurate BV-300 Boss Valiant Conventional Reel. Either of these reels from Accurate would be great choices and would provide a lightweight option to go with that Trevala. Attached below are some links to the reels mentioned.

I cant find anywhere on your site (or Shimano's site for that matter) that explains the differences between all of the vertical jigging rods (Trevala, S, PX, Game Type J, etc). Can you provide a brief comparison?
1 Answer
The original Trevala rods are designed for vertical jigging for larger species, whereas the S and PX versions are the spinning and casting models with a thinner blank that can still handle larger fish, but at a much lighter weight. The main difference with the S and PX from the original Trevala is that they were designed for more finesse situations, all while maintaining a great deal of strength. As far as the Game Type series of rods go, the J is designed for your standard vertical jigging scenarios. The LJ is designed for inshore/light jigging, and the Slow J is designed for slow-pitch jigging which has become very popular in the last few years. Slow-pitch jigging is just working your jigs in a way that forces fish to feed even when they are not actively engaged and feeding. Many of the hits received this way are reaction strikes.
