The highly innovative Shimano Trevala Jigging rod series is designed to be fished with the deadly Shimano Butterfly jigs, which were developed from an extremely productive Japanese-style jigging system. These are powerful, lightweight and light-action rods to be used with high speed, high power reels (such as a Shimano Trinidad Narrow or Stella).
TC4F ConstructionTM
Shimano has engineered the next generation of TC4 construction. This new construction uses a high carbon butt section and fused together with a TC4 tip section. This new blank design gives you the pulling power of TC4 but with less weight and increased sensitivity. You will also notice a much faster recovery rate, which will increase the jigging action.
  • Shimano High Modulus TC4F Construction
  • New Concept Fuji SIC guides
  • Fuji reel seat
  • Black diamond foregrip
  • Custom shaped reargrip
  • Aluminum gimbal on selected rods

This spinning rod came in time and I haven't paid any taxes. I like to order fishing rods form TackleDirect store.
Pros
  • Very light, quality, and durable spinning rod.
Cons
  • I wish it could be at least 1 ft longer.
  • I had to pay for the container tube.

Used this rod for jigging. It is light weight and very strong. I was surprised how comfortable the rod was after hours of fishing.

TFS63MH, A Great Rod in New Jersey
August 24, 2020
I bought a TFS63MH last week and used it for the first time for inshore Sea Bass and Porgies in New Jersey. The rod is capable in handling both fishes with ease, from 50 feet of water to 120 feet. I am sure it has no problem for fluking too. It's both light and strong! I am not sure for stripers. Guessing form the 30-80 pound ling weight, it might be good. Of course, I always have a heavier rod for that.
Pros
  • It's both light and strong!
Cons
  • Not found out yet.

Broke on first use
July 15, 2019
I ordered the Shimano SHM-0868 rod and paired it with a Shimano Saragossa 10000 reel and 65# braid (all purchased on same order). I took it fishing for the first time in the Dry Tortugas. On the second day of use, I hooked a good-sized bottom fish. Approximately 15 min into the fight, the fish had taken ~1/2 the braid off my reel. Just when I started to slow and turn the fish, the rod snapped at the base. One of the eyes also came out during the fight and the guides were bent.

This rod is rated for 65-200# braid and is a “heavy” rod, yet failed severely on first use. I trust the rod purchased from Tackle Direct is an authentic Shimano and warranty applies. I have older model Trevalla rods (heavier and lighter versions of classic Trevalla) that have stood up to heavy loads without any issue. This is my first Trevalla F, which is supposedly a higher-end rod with higher-end guides (both of which failed). I have reached out to Tackle Direct customer support for help with warranty/replacement and 3 days later have still not heard back. I’m hopeful they will help me get replace or get credit toward different rod. might order a different rod / model. I am skeptical of the Trevalla F after this incident - but perhaps it was just a faulty one? In any case, I was lucky to have 3 back up rods (one Accurate, one Diawa, and one old school Trevalla - all of which helped me continue to slay numerous 10-20# mutton, red snapper, and various grouper!

I may update review if positive action from Tackle Direct.
Pros
  • None
Cons
  • Rod and guides break under load

Broke the rod

This the second rod I have broken using 65 lb braid landing a shark. Good reactive rod but It I don't think it can handle the upper end of the braid rating.

honestly a great rod

I have two of them paired with Van Staal VS200s, 30lb seagar florocarbon. Best rod for pulling up reef donkeys before the sharks can get them.
Pros
  • Strong rod that can take a lot of abuse from fish and fisherman alike. Ive had them for 5 years and they work like new.
Cons
  • Pricing, not a huge fan of the compress foam handle

Very versatile, it can be fished with a lot of different lures in addition to the butterfly jigs.
Pros
  • Good value for the money, limited lifetime warranty.
Cons
  • Shimano's spec. for its line and lure ratings are over-rated. This is basically a ML rod.

How wld the trevela tvs 80-200 xxh rod paired with a Saragossa or Stella 10k work for tuna fishing off the jersey coast?
1 Answer
A 10000 Saragosa, Twin Power, or Stella would pair up really well with this Trevala.

I am looking for a spin rod I can use jigging in Florida for grouper and for trolling for large striped bass in NE using a Penn 8500hs reel. Could this rod do both of these tasks ? Is there a better alternative ?
1 Answer
This rod would work well for both styles of fishing, just some people don't like to troll with a spinning rod. That is all preference.

Can you help me understand the differences between TFS58xxh and TVs58xxh? I plan to use the rod for jigging off a kayak--off the cost of Florida and Pacific Coast of Panama. Thanks for your time and expertise
1 Answer
The difference beaten the 2 rods are jig weights are a bit different. If you plan on using heavier weights in the or plugs, i would recommend using the TFS58xxH.

match a reel to this rod?
1 Answer
For this rod, Shimano's Stella would be ideal. But, I know that it is on the high end as far as pricing goes. http://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-stella-swb-stl30000swb-saltwater-spinning-reel.html For a more affordable reel that would fit this rod well please take a look at Shimano's Saragosa... http://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-srg25000sw-saragosa-sw-spinning-reel.html It can hold a lot of line at a high pound test which would match what this rod is rated for. Also, it has a high max drag at 44lbs and it has a fast retrieval at 45 inches per crank. If you have no budget, than please look at the Twin Power SW along with the Stella. http://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-twin-power-sw-spinning-reels.html
