Great rod I paired it with a Torium 16hg and it’s a great combo. Only had the chance to fish live bait (no jigs or irons yet) but I did get a few practice casts in and it threw the Salas 7x a mile.

My go to rod for throwing plastics, light line fishing for halibut, white seabass and light weight jigging for ling cod. Good action combined with good backbone. For the price, all that I asked for.

So i have a Shimano tranx 500HG with 65lb maxcuatro and im mainly going to use it for throwing at tarpon and some deep divers for gags. I was wondering what i should get... an 8ft bait rod or an 8ft swimbait rod and what class ( medium heavy, heavy, etc... ) ?
1 Answer
The heavy 8ft swimbait rod is what your looking for.

Is there a difference in the bait rod vs the swim bait rod? Other than cork handle. Looking for 8ft mh-h rod to pair with lexa 400. Will be using for smaller yellow tail and yellow fin.
1 Answer
The swimbait rod has a action of x-fast while the bait rod just has a moderate fast action. The line rating for the swimbait is also different it has a rating of(braid ) 20-50 pound, while the bait has a line rating of 30-65 pound.

I'm wondering what model would be best for yellowtail and yellowfin off the So Cal coast of SD from a charter. I'm probably paring it with a torium 16 or 20 with 65lb powerpro with a short 40 lb leader of seagar floro. What torium would pair with it. I'm using bait and surface irons.
1 Answer
The Torium 20 would be the better match fishing for yellowtail and pairing it with the Shimano Teramar West Coast Inshore Conventional Rods.
