Back and updated with some of Shimano’s newest technologies, the Shimano Stradic Ci4+ spinning reel delivers top-level performance in a lighter and more durable platform than ever before. By decreasing overall weight, adding the new lightweight MGL Rotor, and incorporating G-Free Body, the Shimano Stradic Ci4+ is the lightest and most comfortable Stradic ever made. Don’t let this reel’s light weight fool you however; the use of cold-forged Hagane Gearing, CoreProtect, and X-Ship technology ensures the Stradic Ci4+ is up to taking the abuse for years of dependable operation.

From Largemouth Bass and Walleye to Striped Bass and Snook, Shimano’s Stradic Ci4+ Spinning Reels delivers all the features and power needed to tame a wide variety of freshwater and inshore species.

Shimano Technology Found In Stradic Ci4+ Reels :
  • Aero Wrap II - Utilizing a patented worm gear design, this two-speed oscillation system lays the line onto the spool in a X pattern that reduces line-on-line friction and helps to increase casting distance.
  • CoreProtect - The concept of CoreProtect is simple – to provide exceptional water resistance without creating any additional rotational resistance on the retrieve. The reel is treated at key areas such as the roller clutch, body, and line roller to resist water intrusion.
  • Hagane Gear - Boasting amazing strength and durability, Hagane Gear is a process in which the gearing is calculated in minute detail and cold forged instead of being cut. This application of state-of-the-art technologies gives the angler reel smoothness from the first use through years of enjoyment.
  • MGL Rotor - The Magnumlight Rotor is 25% lighter and allows for better balance and requires 22% less inertia, which makes it easier to start and stop the retrieve for a smoother feel.
  • S A-RB Bearings - These bearings undergo the same anti-corrosion process as Shimano’s A-RB Bearings, with the addition of shields on both sides of the bearings to reduce the possibility of salt, dirt, or other foreign objects inhibiting the bearing’s rotation.
  • Super Stopper - Super Stopper II anti-reverse uses a one-way stainless steel roller bearing to eliminate back-play in the reel and provide the angler with instant power when setting the hook.
  • X-Ship - By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear remains in precise alignment with the drive gear and stays in the same position under even the heaviest of loads. This eliminates friction between the spool shaft and gear which translates to better casting performance and increased gear durability.

Stradic's do it again!!!
September 15, 2017
I have many Shimano Stradic reels. Why, because they never fail me. This new C-14 is no exception. The main reasons have to do with castability. They cast like a dream and lay line like a smooth sheet w/o digging in and a great retrieve ratio. My friends think I'm crazy to use them in saltwater but I recently wrestled a nice snook from the mangroves as well as caught bluefish and spanish mackerel from the surf in Florida with these reels. I have several sizes, and each is soooo balanced by the incredible lightness per size ratio, making it effortless to cast endlessly w/o fatigue or reel/rod balance issues. Love these guys, and just gifted one to a friend!!!
Cons
  • Unsealed bearings.

i have the 3000 and 4000 CI4 reels. Great reels and light weight. I have caught 40 inch plus redfish on my paddleboard with these reels. Fishing on a paddleboard all day is quite a workout and having a good light setup is key.
Pros
  • good drag and light weight
Cons
  • cost more than the Stradic

Great Reels, Lightweight and durable
November 20, 2019
I have 5 Stradic Ci4's, 1 gen 1, 2 gen 2's and 2 gen 3's. I am tough on my gear and they get a lot of use and have never let me down. Super light and durable. I've caught 15 pound bluefish and 20 pound stripers on the 3000's and use use them for albies as well. I will say that I wish they kept the foam grip handle on the gen 3's. That's the only reason I'm not giving this reel a 5 star ratings.

one of the lightest reels out there

The CI4 version is so light but still packs a punch as its sibling the stradic FK, I use these for freshwater applications because I baby this reel so much I don't want to put it on saltwater

I SEE 2500 RECOMENDED FOR INSHORE SALT , REDFISH ,FLOUNDERS ,TROUT  BUT IT SEEMS YOU RECOMMEND A LARGER SIZE .  IM THINKING 2500 WITH A MOJO ROD. WHAT DO YOU SAY?

1 Answer
Weight wise of these reels they are very versatile and can match up very well with a multitude of rods. The big difference is the line capacity when going up in size. The 2500 would pair well with with the 7 foot medium power mojo inshore

look at the Shimano Stradic CI4 Hg Fb (mostly likely the 2500). Heading to Northern Minnesota this summer fishing for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass and Pike. Mostly vertical jigging with some casting. Looking for a great all around reel for all species....have I found it in the CI4 2500?

1 Answer
The reel size is great for bass, walleye and some similar size species but for pike you may want to go up a size

what does the letters CI stand for ?
1 Answer
CI4 stands for Carbon Interfusion with the 4 referring to the number of electrons in the Carbon atom. Ultimately, this means CI4 is reinforced Carbon Fiber. The new CI4+ is the next generation of Shimano's CI4 material and 250% stronger. It is over one and a half times stronger than Shimano's normal XT-7 graphite and is over 20% lighter. Because it does not contain metal, it is also impervious to rust. So, as a result of its strength and weight, it allows Shimano to create an extremely lightweight reel with very precise tolerances.

Would the Stradic Ci4+ 1000 reel pair well with a St. Croix Legend Elite Panfish 5’6” UL rod for a go to crappie setup? I will be mostly fishing creek banks. Thanks
1 Answer
a 500 class reel like the Nasci NAS500FB would pair best, but you could certainly use a 1000 size Stradic with its additional line capacity.

May 14, 2019

I plan to buy the Stradic CI4 Plus 4000 to fish in the Gulf of Mexico (Texas) and try to match with a G.Loomis E6X Inshore rod. Is the G.Loomis 7' 12-25lb Mag-Mod Heavy ok to use? Any good  if match with 7'6" or even 8'? Ballance issues?

Aim for Sheephead, Smack, Speckled Trout, Red, Black. Thank you.

1 Answer
The 4000 will balance better with the 7' or 7'6, but will work fine on the 8' E6X. Good combo.

Have 3 Shimano Stradic CI4 2500 paired with St Croix 7'6" ML Avid series rods. Use them for Bass, Specs and Reds. They handle reds, have not caught any Reds bigger than about 7 or 8 lbs, they handled that pretty good. But will be fishing in LA shortly for Reds and specs where the possibility of getting hooked up Bull reds increases, 10-30 lb range. Thinking of Shimano CI4 4000 series with St Croix Legend Tournament 7'6" Med action. Your thoughts on this combination with 30 LB Power Pro Slick 8

This setup will work well for the fish and size of fish you are targeting.

What's the difference between the 2016 and 2017 model?
1 Answer
The 2017 model cut down on weight by adjusting the positioning and size of the counterbalance on the rotor. They have also removed the anti-reverse switch that was included on the older Ci4+ model.
