The all new for 2018 Shimano Stella FJ takes the Shimano spinning reel lineup to new heights, now even smoother, more efficient, and durable than the previous generation, the Stella FI. Featuring Micro Module II, the all new gear design and gear teeth surface provides for amazing smoothness and nearly doubles the strength of Shimano’s already unmatched gear durability. X-Protect also makes this Stella up to 5X more water resistant than its predecessor, which ensures each turn of the handle will feel as good as it did right out of the box for years of trouble free use. Yet another major upgrade is the all new Silent Drive, which eliminates play at the micron level and increases tolerances to a level never seen before in a Stella reel. On top of these three revolutionary upgrades is a long stroke spool and tangle proof rotor design that truly takes the Stella FJ to a new level and sets the benchmark for Shimano spinning reels moving forward.

I have three Stella’s and they are my smoothest, most dependable reels that I own. The 4000 pairs well with long and short rods. Changing spools from 4 test to 20 test braid is a snap! Recommend this reel to anybody.

I already owned the Stradic 1000FL and the Vanford 2000. Both are great reels for Trout/sm.Bass and Panfish. I seen the Stella on Sale at T.D. for $499 and had to give it a try. It was a luxury reel and at the price I had to give it a shot. To be honest it's a great reel but NOT much better (IMO) than the Stradic or Vanford. Even though it was on sale I'd recommend buying the Stradic,Vanford and if you're a back reeler just wait for the new Sahara. Three really fine reels for the price of one.
Pros
  • Precise drag, line management, smooth (But not overly smooth), great price thank's to T.D.
Cons
  • Not a big upgrade (If any) than the Stradic 1000FL or Vanford 2000 I already own.

This reel is very smooth and is a great looking reel (looks a lot nicer in person). With 24 lbs. of max drag I plan to load it up with 30 lb. braid and use it inshore for stripers, red drum and the like.

The only review you need to read is Scott. Underline die on beach. They need to seal these reels. I own a 4000 Stradic.I fish the salt 2 months ever year and wade a lot. One dunking and you have a bad bearing. Tough to get apart completely no matter what the videos show. If the part on the shaft w tiny set screw freezes up youre done. You can get to gears but not the bearing. So you soak it in penetrating oil or head to the repair shop. Smooth for awhile durable no.
Pros
  • Smooth light
Cons
  • No seals

Shimano Stella FJ WOW!
October 2, 2020
It was hard to make the decision to drop so much of my hard earned cash on a fishing reel; glad I did. Incredibly light and smooth. It really doesn't get any better than this. I have been using three to four times a week for over a month now and have been completely impressed with the performance and action I'm getting out of this reel. I paired mine with St Croix Legend Tournament Bass Spinning Rod and couldn't be happier.
Pros
  • Extremely smooth and light. Absolutely zero back spin.
Cons
  • Extremely expensive, but you get what you pay for.

FJ 5000, super light and smoother than my Macallan 18
June 10, 2020
Light but sturdy and strong, plus smooth and good looking, what else you want?

The drag is so dang smooth, other $300 $400 reels can't compare to this, obviously you get what you paid for.

Stella SWC6000 is about 15 oz, the FJ5000 is about 9.2 oz, I can throw plug all day long without getting a sore arm.

I pair it with my gloomis pro blue, I can either throw plug or bottom fishing inshore or off-shore.

The finest real I have ever purchased
March 30, 2020
This Shimano STLC3000XGFJ Stella FJ Spinning Reel is the nicest real I have ever bought. I just purchased a Shimano Exsence 3000 and was so blown away. But what can I say this Stella is a definite step up. Love this real, can't be happier. I paired it with a G-Loomis NRX 842, it took a long time to justify this expensive of a fishing combo.
Pros
  • The best I have ever owned, too many things too talk about in this real. Shimano has really outdone themselves on this real. You will not regret this purchase at all.
Cons
  • Expensive

What's a good rod to pair with this real for inshore porgie, sea bass and fluke
1 Answer
Hi Frank, I would recommend the St. Croix JIS70HF Mojo Inshore Spinning Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/st-croix-jis70hf-mojo-inshore-spinning-rod.html This would pair great with the Shimano STLC5000XGFJ Stella FJ Spinning Reel and be a light setup for seabass, porgies, and fluke. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.
