Set a new benchmark for spinning performance on the ocean with the latest Stella fishing reels. The Shimano Stella FJ takes the Shimano spinning reel lineup to new heights. The latest models are even smoother, more efficient and more durable than the previous generation (the Stella FI). Micro Module II technology is the heart of the all-new gear design and gear teeth surface. The design provides for amazing smoothness and nearly doubles the strength of Shimano's already unmatched gear durability.
X-Protect also makes this Stella up to five times more water-resistant than its predecessor. This ensures each turn of the handle will feel as good as it did right out of the box for years of trouble-free use. Yet another major upgrade is the all-new Silent Drive, which eliminates play at the micron level and increases tolerances to a level never seen before in a Stella reel. On top of these three revolutionary upgrades is a long stroke spool and tangle-proof rotor design that truly takes the Stella FJ to a new level and sets the benchmark for Shimano spinning reels moving forward.
TackleDirect offers five models of the Stella FJ for anglers who want to chase any saltwater species. Smaller reels such as the Shimano Stella 2500 and 1000 are good for striper, redfish, salmon and other small- to mid-size game fish. If you want to go after bluefin tuna and giant porgies, trust a Stella FJ 5000 with its high gear ratio and line capacity. All of these reels have super-strong Hagane gearing, a tangle-free bail, E.I. anti-corrosion treatment and other features the Stella is known for. Call or email us for expert advice on which reel fits your game fish of choice.
- Shimano has not let me down with any service. Casts like a charm.
- A little pricey.
- Shimano stands by their products.
- A little pricey,
- Precise drag, line management, smooth (But not overly smooth), great price thank's to T.D.
- Not a big upgrade (If any) than the Stradic 1000FL or Vanford 2000 I already own.
- Smooth light
- No seals
Very smooth, strong drag, nice design, all silver!!!!!
It works flawlessly and very smooth !
Thank you Shimano and Tackle Direct .
- SMOOTH, LIGHT AND STRONG
- NONE SO FAR .
- Extremely smooth and light. Absolutely zero back spin.
- Extremely expensive, but you get what you pay for.
The drag is so dang smooth, other $300 $400 reels can't compare to this, obviously you get what you paid for.
Stella SWC6000 is about 15 oz, the FJ5000 is about 9.2 oz, I can throw plug all day long without getting a sore arm.
I pair it with my gloomis pro blue, I can either throw plug or bottom fishing inshore or off-shore.
- The best I have ever owned, too many things too talk about in this real. Shimano has really outdone themselves on this real. You will not regret this purchase at all.
- Expensive
- expensive
24lbs of drag and weighs 9.2 oz's

I am considering buying an FJ1000 , providing that it IS Made in Japan. ( actually "Made" in Japan ).
And also , is this one the absolutely BEST Ultralight spinning reel I can get ? , or is there any better version ?
Also I need this reel to be A JAPANESE DOMESTIC MARKET reel. I DO NOT want the US version.
Any advise will be appreciated. I am ready to buy now. Thanks
I have the Shimano Stella FJ Spinning Reel 5000XGFJ paired with Shimano Tirelajo 10’6 Medium Power. I however want to pair the Tiralejo with a Stradic STC5000XGFL. Can you please recommend a 10’ or 10’6 Medium Heavy surf spinning rod to pair with the Stella FJ Spinning Reel 5000XGFJ? I want this to be my everyday rod, throwing poppers, buck tails, up to 3oz jigs etc.

I would recommend going with a Shimano Saragosa for surf conditions, this is a much more common reel for these applications
