With the Shimano Stella FI Spinning Reel the best in spinning just got better. Shimano aimed to make the most efficient Drivetrain in a spinning reel; they achieved their goal by using their new X-Ship feature. The result of using X-Ship makes the handle easier to turn with or without load. This makes the most important thing in fishing, the bite, easier to feel. Because less effort goes into turning the handle you can detect even the lightest ''tick'' bites.
Shimano Stella FI Features
  • Micromodule Gear
  • X-Ship - Double Bearing Supported Pinion Gear • Ultra-Light Handle Rotation • Increased Gearing Efficiency and Power
  • G Free Body
  • E.I. Surface Treatment for extreme corrosion protection on Spool
  • Aerowrap II Oscillation
  • Super Mg
  • S A-RB Bearings (Shielded A-RB)
  • One-Piece Bail
  • AR-C Light Spool
  • Coreprotect
  • Rigid Support System: Rigid Support Drag
  • Machined Aluminum Handle
  • Septon Handle Grips
  • S-Direct Gear
  • Easy Maintenance
  • Fluidrive II
  • Dyna-Balance
  • Titanium Bail Wire
  • Improved Line Clip
  • Super Stopper II
  • Approved for use in Saltwater
  • Rated for use with Mono, Fluorocarbon and PowerPro lines
G Free Body
G Free Body technology has been developed to shift the reel’s center of gravity closer to the rod. This has been achieved by moving the worm shaft oscillation mechanism 19mm from the bottom of the reel to the top. By moving the center of gravity closer to the anglers hand position, the G Free Body helps to reduce fatigue and enhance casting comfort.

S-Direct Gear
S-Direct Gear technology improves gear component alignment within the reel itself. By reducing any movement of critical parts within the reel, Shimano has eliminated microscopic amounts of handle play that existed in previous models. The result is an incredible solid feeling that maximizes the power and energy transfer when fishing.

Micromodule
Incredible Smoothness: The addition of MICROMODULE gear technology to Stella provides an incredible breakthrough in gear design and alignment that delivers a new level smoothness without sacrificing strength or durability. The reduced vibration and enhanced smoothness result in greater sensitivity transmitted from your rod, line and lure to your hand.

Coreprotect
Total Protection: The concept of COREPROTECT is simple... to provide water resistance without creating a heavy rotation feeling. There are three key areas of the reel that require protection; the roller clutch, the body and the line roller.

Love it
September 30, 2018
I am a Diawa man but bought an F1 (2000 C) for light salt water spinning and flicking small plastics and poppers around. I pair it with a Yamaga Early 8.2). Three season in and it has I can not say enough about how good this reel is. It has dealt to queenies up 8 kg, King mackerel up to 10 kg, Dorado big Emperors and Golden Trevally - so a mixture of sprinters and brutes. I even has a tussle with sail fish that took a needle fish (the sail won that one!). It is one a tough little reel with a great drag and it runs smoother than a babies bottom. Looks great too. I bought the 2015 exist and was a little disappointed. The 2018 Exist is on my radar but for the time being this is one Daiwa fan that is happy to give a shout out to Shimano.

Well, can you the difference???
April 19, 2018
Well, can you the difference between 2014 Shimano Stella FI STL4000XGFI and 2015 Shimano Stradic FK ST4000XGFK???????
They both have slimy retrieve (in good way) but Stella FI has better slimy retrieve...
the big difference is when you flip the bail. Stella FI does not have cheap toy feeling and sound when you flip the bail. Also, Stella FI Hagane Gear must be better than Stradic FK Hagane Gear...
Pros
  • The Highest end reel ever.
  • Stella = The Best of Bests, King of spinning reel
Cons
  • Too expensive for regular fishermen

Best reel I have ever used
March 9, 2017
While this reel is obviously expensive, I contend it is worth it for the serious fisherman. The build quality is absolutely top of the line, as is the performance and overall feel. For those looking for the best freshwater spinning reel on the market, this is it. With proper care and maintenance, this reel should last many many years. Assuming parts remain available, it should easily last decades.
Pros
  • Quality, reliability, performance
Cons
  • Price

I'm Cheating on my Wife with Stella
April 2, 2016
The Stella is an amazing reel. I caught my first fish ever on a plug with this reel a couple of weeks ago. The reel is lightweight, but has a strong, smooth drag. Plugging has never been more fun. I am in love.

Powerful and awesome

Bought the 4000 and I have to say, this reel is the bomb!
The smoothness is just unbelievable and it can handle big
fish. I use this reel for saltwater only and it is a solid performer.
Shimanos recommends no servicing or lube should be
done by the owner. Just send it in to them for full service.
We will see over the long term if this reel stays smooth.
Price is steep but this is a winner

I was iffy about buying such an expensive reel for freshwater fishing when I have a a few high end saltwater reels already, but this is the smoothest reel I have ever felt. The Shimano Stella is worth every penny!

I have two questions, what size do you recommend for inshore fishing in marco island 10,000 island in the back country on a bay boat? And what size would you recommend at the lake of the ozarks missouri for bass fishing thanks.
1 Answers
The Shimano Stella STL4000XGFI or SWB 5000 or 6000 for inshore fishing in Marco Island. The Shimano Stella FI 2500 or 3000 would be a suitable size reel for fishing at Lake Ozarks.

This reel would be good for fishing for musky using 3 - 5 oz lures.

You can use this in saltwater, although I would avoid getting them very wet or sandy.
