- It?s a little heavy. If you want a trigger reel a bit lighter get the Syncopate.
On the trolling factor, it allows to set up the strike zone, then flipping the drag lever allows to tighten the drag for the fight.
My favorite Shimano is my 37 year old 200Q mounted on my Mitchell Tradition Graphite cork handle which I broke the tip off the rod when I put it in the back of that old truck. I still use it today for general and/or under fallen trees/brush.
- Variable drag zone. Shimano's superior quality and dependability.
- Easy to overcome the less than optimal reel to rod mount strength. Just work the rod/reel in a vertical position using the crank and pump style retrieve with the line straight in front of you.. Pulling a sideways retrieve, as when performing a flipping style cast, will show you that you are not using a bait caster style mounted reel.
- Bullet proof. Great for casting jigs and crankbaits. Saltwater proven against my higher end reels (Finnor Lethal, Spinfisher VI, Stradic, Battle), Body and paint has held up very well. I've used for about 5 years with no issues.
- Small handle hinders horsing in the biggest reds - limited torque.
- Bail trigger, available rear drag
Now for the "BUT" part. The frames arm, from the reel to the rod seat, on the 1000 & 2500 class are weak and will twist back and forth on large fish. We have broken several of them on larger fish and they will twist and flex back and forth as you try and reel in a larger fish. Just caught 20# King Salmon on a 2500 and thought for sure the reel armature was going to snap off the way it was twisting back and forth. FYI, I was fishing for 5-9# Coho's at the time so I had the correct size reel. Still they need to beef up the arm between the reel ans rod seat.
