Great Performance

Received Medium action rod 3 days ago; was very happy with it's craftsmanship and looks. I was a bit skeptical whether or not it would be up to the job tackling migrator amberjack that crest the southern tip of South Korea this time of year; heading to feeding grounds somewhere along the Aus. coastal waters. I opted for the Penn Slammer III just because I wanted the speed (59" per turn) I've utilized other twin powers for the job but, just got followers and no strikes. About 12 casts ripping a topwater plug the water boiled and the fight was on...... The rod performance was fantastic; straining to immense power of whatever was on the end of my line. With a lot of oh's, ah's as I put the rod into near breaking point flex I finally better my query. A 51lb Golden stripped Amberjack. A stunning species and great fighter. I would have posted a pic but phone is entertaining the bottom dwellers at about 37 meters.
Pros
  • Although the eyelet bindings are a bit thick, presenting a ever so slight hump appearance; This rod performed better than my NS Blackhole of comparable weight hands down.
Cons
  • Don't know what the brown strap that accompanied the rod is; instruction all in Japanese (who cares though)

Shimano Ocea Plugger 8'6"

I fish this rod for west coast species on surface irons and jig/swimbait combos as well as throwing musky plugs in the midwest. It is an absolute cannon capable of bombing super long casts with large lures. My only suggestion is to specify that the 2-piece split in the rod is at the top of the handle rather than in the blank

This rod is absolutely amazing! Anyone who has ever used a Terez rod knows how thin, light and yet powerful they are. Well, this rod takes all that to a new level. I have used other popping rods in the past that not only felt heavy but stiff as well. This Ocea rod is so light that it will leave you wondering if its going to break under heavy pressure. It has a nice moderate tip which allows you to make great casts and work any lure as you wish. But its when this rod gets punched in the jaw by a big fish that its true colors come out. I have used this rod on large Tuna, big beach Tarpon, Sharks and anything else I have been able to hook into and this rod has slayed them all. The power of the 83H in particular is that of the Greek gods. If Zeus ever fished, this was the rod he used. I have purchased a Game Type J which utilizes this new blank construction and can't wait to try it out as well. Its pricey but worth every penny!
Pros
  • - Light yet powerful blank construction.
  • - Beautiful Rod
  • - 2 Piece design makes it easy to travel with.
  • - Comes with a high quality rod sack and straps.
Cons
  • Shimano might as well have direct access to my bank account.

The 2-piece split in the rod is at the top of the handle or the middle?. Then what would be the length of the cane when it is divided?

The Ocea Plugger comes apart at the top of the handle. For the OPFLSLTD83H, the handle piece measures 30" and remainder of the rod measures 73".

The quality of the Shimano OPFLSLTD83H Ocea Plugger Flex Limited Spinning Rod can not be matched. The rod is light and made to flex. The action on the Ocea Plugger is great for larger fish.

Yes, but it is not a hard, tube type of case. It is a soft, fabric case/cover.
