Shimano FX front drag reels feature Super Stopper anti-reverse for solid hooksets, Varispeed for long, accurate casts, and Dyna-Balance for smooth retrieves.

  • Diecast Aluminum Spool
  • Varispeed
  • Super Stopper
  • Dyna-Balance
  • Power Roller II
FX® FB Feature Details
  • Varispeed™
Normal oscillation systems use a constant rotation of the oscillation gear that, when translated to the cam, provides an inconsistent spool speed. This results in line lay that stacks at either end of the spool. By using an oval oscillation gear, we are able to alter the speed of the oscillation cam to provide a consistent spool speed. This results in an even line lay that provides excellent castability and manageability.
  • Super Stopper®Super Stopper anti-reverse uses a multi-stop ratchet that nearly eliminates backplay in the rotor for solid hooksets. The Super Stopper anti-reverse can be turned off to allow backreeling for special techniques and situations.
  • Dyna-Balance®
This feature eliminates wobble during the retrieve by counterbalancing the rotor to enhance sensitivity and smoothness. By using computer balancing, an approach similar to car tire balancing, we are able to redistribute the rotor weight to create smooth rotation and eliminate vibrations caused by the reel.
  • Power Roller® II
This is an oversized line roller that reduces twist from casting and retrieving and is enhanced with a tapered area on the support to help line get onto the roller quicker.

A great beginner front drag reel that gives you features needed to get into freshwater without breaking the bank
Pros
  • Price, respectable front drag
Cons
  • Not pretty like its hotter high dollar siblings

Good reel Great price

I have used these reels over the last 4 years and they stand up to heavy use well for being so inexpensive. Drag is relatively smooth and no lockup. They are light on the grease so would recommend loading them up with a quality lube will make the gears last longer.
Pros
  • Great price on an everyday reel. Easy to work on. Good beginner reel
Cons
  • Needs a little more grease to last under hard use.

Good reel for the price

This reel is only for a very casual, small game angler. In all honestly, the reel is not reliable or even good, but for 17.99, it's a deal. Just expect to have to buy another one every season if you fish saltwater. In freshwater, this reel would perform fairly well.
Pros
  • Very cheap
Cons
  • Too much plastic
  • Poor materials
  • Corrosion
  • Bail flips on cast
  • Drag can seize

Excellent smoothness and reliability

Shimano's FX FB reel is a good example quality which is demonstrated in the reel. The reel is smooth, durable and can be used in both fresh and saltwater. And if used, little maintenance is required. The reel is not very heavy and quite compact for a reel with many features.

great reel for the $

don't overlook this reel just because its cheap. its not the nicest or fanciest but you will be hard pressed to find a better $20 reel. i have tortured mine and still use it. i used to light line with it and have caught amberjack up to 25# and mahi to 20# on this reel. i have long since upgraded my light line reels but i still use them when i go to the pier and catch spots and mullet.
Pros
  • cheap strong very durable

How to install line
1 Answers
Hello James. Ideally, you would want to take your reel to a shop with a spooling machine to have the line installed. If you would like to do it yourself, here is a video showing you one good way to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhpEjSUdPDo Please feel free to contact us if you have any more questions!
