Shimano Catana FD Spinning Reels provide great performance and an amazing value. These reels feature a propulsion line management system which allows for trouble free casting for long days out on the water. These spinning reels are lighter allowing for less fatigue during fishing.

Good value for money :)

I have the 4000HG model. Good reel for the price. I have it for 2 years now and use it for saltwater inshore fishing (seabass fishing in Europe), it still works. I do rinse it with water after use and put some oil. Never opened it though.
Pros
  • Strong and smooth drag
  • Lightweight
  • Tough
  • Good looking
Cons
  • The retrieve handle is the type thats attached with a bolt on the other side, These handles always have a lot of play. I prefer the handle type that screws directly into the main gear.
  • It has a little switch to be able to reel back, no need for that, only possibility of saltwater getting in.
  • Every once in a while i can feel the gears during retrieve ( can't complain for the price).

What would be the recommended size for a 7' MH action for Senkos, 1/8oz. Tx rigs, and wacky rigs? Looking at running 10-12lb. line.

I would go with the CAT3000HGFDC.

With the Shimano Catana reels there is FC and FD models. Both models mention (Clam Pack) on some of the reels.  Also I have seen this Clam Pack mentioned before.

 What does this mean ?

Thank you very much for your time...  John B.

The Clam Pack models are exactly the same as the boxed models. they just are packed nicely in a clear plastic display instead of in a box like most reels come in. The clam packs are just designed with big box stores in mind so they show the product better and you can fit more on a peg
