Just got this today on time delivery and everything arrived in working order. Put it all together and the reel feels great nice and smooth. The rod action feels good also can't wait to get to the beach and test this thing out. I am going to follow up with a review once I get a fish on the end of this rod

Pretty much getting the rod for free. Reel is butter smooth. Rod we shall see after the first run at the surf. But overall looks good. Reminds me of the okuma series of rod or the bass pro brand off shore surf rods.

Reel casts a mile and looks and feels more expensive than it is. Rod isn't very sensitive but it's cheap so thats expected, but it's real strong considering the price. Has no problem launching large plugs for striped bass. I noticed nobody else complained of this but the rubber grips on the rod reek like a tire factory. I wash my hands multiple times when I'm done but still reek like pepboys. The smell gets on everything. Hopefully it'll fade in time

- The rod is cheap so that worrys me a little if I hook up to a large blue or striper but it feels strong so hopefully it is. The grips reeking like a rubber factory is the biggest downside of the rod. It's insane how strong the smell is

Hi Steve, The Shimano Baitrunner Sea Striker Beach Runner Surf Spin Combos smallest size reel it comes with is a 6000 size Shimano Baitrunner D. This is 2 sizes larger than a Penn 4000 reel, and most importantly the Shimano model has a Baitrunner live bait switch that when used it easily can detect bites due to the clicking free spool. This essentially wil make it very essential to use for any surf fishing application using live, dead, or cut bait. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Is the 6000 paired with the 8' a good combo to use surf/jetty fishing.. I plan on throwing all types of lures, plugs, slash baits, plastics etc.. Will the 6000 perform well with this type of fishing?

The 6000 size reel on the 8' rod would be a solid set up for what you plan on doing. Depending on your location, you may want to look at getting a longer rod, as casting distance is more important on some beaches than it is for others. Also, this particular reel has a rear drag system that allows for fish to take baits and run on light drag, which is not necessary when fishing with lures, but will certainly not hinder the reels performance when casting artificial lures.
