I absolutely love this reel. I’ve been using a hot rodded Akios reel that I built myself for a long time for fishing on the pier at Oak Island NC. Then I bought this Awesome reel and it’s definitely Worth the Money to me. I have it on a 8ft Denali bottom Feeder rod and also a 7 Ft Triton Tuna rod. I also throw a 8oz sinker and a fish finder rig and other Drum Rigs that I make my self. Anyway I absolutely love this reel. By the way the spool adjuster knob definitely moves way too easy so I set the knob knob exactly where it needs to be and then super glued it so it won’t move. because it Definitely Turns way too easy and I mean way too easy. But once I super glued it to where it needs to be it’s the perfect reel.
Pros
  • Cast absolutely awesome
Cons
  • Nothing at all.

Several years ago I began a quest to find the best magged surf casting reel. I should have bought this one first. Long smooth casting. The mag adjustment knob is easy to find and adjust during the cast. Their customer service is absolutely amazing!

Worth every penny

If your looking to cast further then this it’s your reel cast about 3 to 400 feet with out a problem. My personal surf set up with this bad boy.... tsunami trophy II 12’ XH...... I use 6 to 8oz for bunker casting..... 40lb spiderwire ultra cast invisible-braid with a topshot leader of 30lb mono

Bitter sweet..

Reel supplied casts great and is wickedly fast on retrieve (game changer IMO) ... Sadly the crank handle securing screw keeps working loose.... manufacturer suggested to loc-tite but not a satisfactory solution imo.

Sadly as good as the reel is in so many respects a reel without a reliable crank is not ideal... many conventional reels use a second set screw to stop the main screw from moving and the SM may benefit from this..
Pros
  • Casts great.
  • Low centre-line makes for a excellent grip on spool when distance casting.
  • Awesomely fast at whipping in 500+ft of line from distance casting.
  • Very good, smooth drag.
  • Beautifully light weight.
Cons
  • Crank handle keeps loosening.
  • Mag adjustment and spool centreing screws are easily adjusted unintentionally... often greatly limits casting distance ( they tend to tighten up unless actively re-adjusted after casting.
  • Damaged crank securing screw with a 3mm hex. I have metric and imperial sets and 3mm was the closest.. not close enough..

Really nice reels for surfcasting
December 6, 2018
They go a mile when you cast them. I stop by a fairly decent sized tackle store on long island to keep up with new products and get a feel for them when visiting a friend for holidays. While fumbling around with these reels I immediately liked the way it felt in the hand and the smoothness. The only thing I didn't like about the surf casting model was because of the no crossbar at the top, but they told me it casts a mile. Could not overcome the feeling that i had seen these reels before even though i didn't recognize the name, and said that to the guy behind the counter. He responded to me that they used to be named truth reels, and release reels before that and a light bulb went off. A guy we used to fish with a few years back used to bring his truth reel out and cast a really good distance, and these are basically the same just rebranded.
Pros
  • If anything like Truths they cast far. pretty light. decent amount of drag.
Cons
  • No crossbar

The best I've owned
November 16, 2018
I am a die hard sturgeon fisherman on the lower Columbia river in Washington state. I bank fish in sand. Prior to this reel I was using a Diawa Saltist 7.3:1. That is also a great reel, but the casting performance of this reel is unmatched. I regularly throw 10 and 12 lead. The smoothness of the reel ups is just icing on the cake. I've used it on a boat as well, hooked a 13 footer, and it handled it without a hiccup. On a side note, it's kinda like owning a nice street rod.. when you pull up to gas station and everyone wants to look and ask questions, except it's a reel and and you're on the beach!

Great but do not leave fall to the sand or salt water
February 26, 2018
It's a Great reel with amazing long casting, more dragg ,geat design and materials. But to be the surf fishers best friend as they said, too much water and sand enter to it if fall, and coast fishers aren't on a boat. If fall to salt water and sand leave it practically out of combat, cos of the sand inside.
If you need to enter a bit to the sea for cast, and it gets wet or moistened the handle gets hard to retrieve and the mechanic brake the same.
Pros
  • Long casting, better than others ( Avet, Daiwa I have it).
  • More dragg than others
  • Better materials ( but it has 2 springs inside that are a shit).
  • Good capability of line for the size.
  • Very beautiful design.
Cons
  • 1.More sand and salt water enter to it than the to the other brands ( Avet, Daiwa). If it fall to the wet sand or salt water with sand you will need to stop fishing cos of the amount of sand inside. With others you could continue with out problems.
  • And you know it's recommended for coast or surf fishing, so the fall when a big drum bits the hook or whatever is quite possible.
  • 2. 2 springs inside for very bad material, very corrosible by salt water.
  • 3. If you enter to cast and it gets wet, the handle and mechanic breake get extremelly hard, much more than the other.
