The Seigler Reels SM Star Mag Conventional Reel is Seigler's original star drag reel, designed for surf anglers looking to cast further without compromising torque and power. This tournament inspired casting reel is perfectly suited to slinging lead from the pier, beach, or rock jetty. Whether you're casting big plugs to drum or cut bait to sharks, the SM is an ideal choice.
- Cast absolutely awesome
- Nothing at all.
- everything
- none
Sadly as good as the reel is in so many respects a reel without a reliable crank is not ideal... many conventional reels use a second set screw to stop the main screw from moving and the SM may benefit from this..
- Casts great.
- Low centre-line makes for a excellent grip on spool when distance casting.
- Awesomely fast at whipping in 500+ft of line from distance casting.
- Very good, smooth drag.
- Beautifully light weight.
- Crank handle keeps loosening.
- Mag adjustment and spool centreing screws are easily adjusted unintentionally... often greatly limits casting distance ( they tend to tighten up unless actively re-adjusted after casting.
- Damaged crank securing screw with a 3mm hex. I have metric and imperial sets and 3mm was the closest.. not close enough..
- If anything like Truths they cast far. pretty light. decent amount of drag.
- No crossbar
If you need to enter a bit to the sea for cast, and it gets wet or moistened the handle gets hard to retrieve and the mechanic brake the same.
- Long casting, better than others ( Avet, Daiwa I have it).
- More dragg than others
- Better materials ( but it has 2 springs inside that are a shit).
- Good capability of line for the size.
- Very beautiful design.
- 1.More sand and salt water enter to it than the to the other brands ( Avet, Daiwa). If it fall to the wet sand or salt water with sand you will need to stop fishing cos of the amount of sand inside. With others you could continue with out problems.
- And you know it's recommended for coast or surf fishing, so the fall when a big drum bits the hook or whatever is quite possible.
- 2. 2 springs inside for very bad material, very corrosible by salt water.
- 3. If you enter to cast and it gets wet, the handle and mechanic breake get extremelly hard, much more than the other.
- unbelievable casting distance.
- drag is ridiculous
- not a thing
- smooth
- light
- casting distance
- none
