This is a great budget rod and reel. Works well with snapper and triggerfish. It’s heavier and bulkier than other more expensive options but for the price it is tough to beat. It’ll always be on my boat as a backup or for my kids to use.

I bought this combo mainly for boat guests, because I fish left handed reels, but I may have to switch. The reel is a monster that is sure to handle the largest of fish. I've only taken it out once, and it demonstrated the quality associated with the Penn reputation. At this price, it is a winner.

i also use this for saltwater trolling. retrieve is slow but smooth and power pack ! i put in 80 lb braid about 600 yards. loud clicker. strong rod.

Hi John, I wouldnt recommend using a mono to mono topshot. How would this work for beach shark fishing Florida. I would use kayak to drop offshore

This setup should work great for shark fishing from shore. As long as you are dropping your baits with a kayak it should be fine. The reel should have enough capacity to handle most sharks. I would recommend using braid with a monofilament top shot just to maximize the amount you can fit on the spool.
