Penn Pursuit II Spinning Reels are built for durability like all Penn reels. The body is made of lightweight, yet tough and corrosion-resistant graphite. Durable metal sideplates and a machined and anodized braid ready aluminum spool provide the strength to withstand the strain that braided lines put on a reel. Heavy-duty bail wire stays strong after getting knocked around on the jetties all night and Line Capacity Rings let the angler know at a glance when the spool is full, at 2/3rds capacity and 1/3rd capacity. Four shielded stainless steel bearings plus Instant Anti Reverse provide smooth cranking performance. The handle with new and improved knobs, can be configured for right or left hand retrieve.
  • Lightweight and corrosion-resistant graphite body
  • Aluminum sideplate
  • Machined and anodized aluminum spool
  • 4 Shielded stainless steel ball bearings
  • Infinite Anti-Reverse

Penn Pursuit III-Great value!
November 2, 2020
I have 2 Penn Pursuit III (2500 & 3000) on Ugly Stick Lite Pro rods! Can't beat the combo!
Pros
  • Best bang for the buck in the Penn lineup.

Great entry reel

For the price these can’t be beat. My Pursuit 2s are still going strong after many seasons in salt water and haven’t had any issues even on the occasional fish bigger than what they should be used for. Nothing fancy but they work fine and compete with reels more than twice their price in functionality and dependability.
Pros
  • Cheap, Low maintenance and easy to service

Strength, Durability, Price all there

I have a 3K, multiple 4K's and a 6K. All do the job well, and although these may not be the ultimate in smoothness, they are strong and can handle a fight. If you're on a budget, starting out, or just don't want to get into a battle with a spouse or partner over "why do you need that expensive reel" I would say this is your best bet. If it breaks, it's an argument point to bump up to a Fierce or Battle.

THE ONLY ONE FOR EVERY TECHNIQUE IMAGINABLE
August 10, 2016
I received this great reel, and turned out to be the exact thing I needed to properly balance out a heavy power 8' boat rod. The reel was spooled up with about 305 yards of 50lb braid. Once I hit the water, every fish l saw became mine, this reel is on the top ten most wanted list of every fish that is yet to be caught. I hope that I will have many more wonderful years with this awesome beast of a spinning reel.
Pros
  • Strength, smoothness, smooth drag, all of this at a very low price !!!!
Cons
  • No bail-less version?!? And also this t reel is not sealed like spinfisher v or torque. Do no submerge!

Great reel for the money
April 28, 2016
I bought this reel from tackle direct when it was on sale for $42.00. What can u expect from a cheap reel. The way I look at it is right now new it's working great. If it last 2 yrs I'm happy with that. U can't even get a reel serviced for that price. Long story short. Great starter reel or extra reel. Service was great and shipping was fast.
Pros
  • Cheap enough to replace
  • Great new out of box

Bang for the buck reels!
April 18, 2016
Purchased a couple Penn pursuit II 5000 size reels to match up to 10' penn prevail surf rods. Have caught many fish on these and haven't had any issues chunking bait + 4oz weight. Casts are smooth and haven't had any issues with line lay (using 15lb mono). I'm gonna have to pick up some extra spools for braid to fish the Gulf sometime this year. Awesome reels for the money!!
Pros
  • Looks great, good line lay, smooth drag
Cons
  • Not a big fan of the handle design, but for the $$, it doesn't matter!

I have the 5000 model I’ve never used or pair it with a rod

I’m taking a fishing trip on a boat and woo like  to know what size rod I should pair this reel with

Thanks!

1 Answer
A 7' MH would pair well with this reel. St. Croix makes great rods for all applications, check them out here:

These reels seem to be a very good bargain. I am interested in putting together a surf fishing rig pair one of these reels with a 15' Okuma TXP-S-1503MH Tundra Pro Series Spinning Rod. What size reel would you recommend and should i go with braid or mono? thanks!
1 Answer
The Penn PURII8000 Pursuit II Spinning Reel paired with 65 lb power pro would be a great match pairing it with the 15' Okuma TXP-S-1503MH Tundra Pro Series Spinning Rod.
