Penn Battle II Spinning Reels are no exception. Built like tanks but surprisingly affordable, the lineup of Penn Battle 2 reels includes versions that can handle everything from perch and snapper to cow bass and alligator blues.
Even though it's tough, this reel is a smooth operator. The Battle II has Penn's HT-100 Versa-Drag washers keyed into the spool, which allows both sides of each drag washer to be used. This gives the Battle II higher max drags.
Choose from versions including the Penn Battle 4000, which can hold 270 yards of 8-pound mono, and the Penn Battle 8000, which can spool up 340 yards of 20-pound-test monofilament. For a great Penn Battle 5000 deal or any of its cousins, look no further than TackleDirect.

This reel ceases up very easy, I always rinsed and used PENN Rod&Reel cleaner after saltwater use and it still ceased up and started to grind (was never dunked or dropped on sand). This reel is also not smooth at all, and is heavy, if you are looking for a work horse reel this isn't it. If you use it here and there then it will last.
Better off getting a Battle 3, BG, or spend a little extra and get a Clash or Spinfisher.
- Line Capacity
- No seal, poor quality, crap components
- strong, smooth, and affordable
- a little heavy
- Cost effective, reliability.
- For what I'm using it for, I have no complaints
