I got the 9'6MH 2-6oz and paired it up with my slammer 4 5500. This rod is too heavy wish it was lighter since the slammer itself is 20oz+ I can only do 7 cast until my wrist wears out.

I like my tica tc3 9ft 2-6oz better. It has better finesse even though it's shorter and rated the same. The tip of the rockaway is too thick to jig with if you want slight finesse. The tc3 is also much lighter

If you planning on buying this rod, don’t waste your hard earned money with it. Purchase this rod on Nov 2021, first outing second cast with a 11 ounce sinker. This rod blew out on me. It’s rated up to 16oz lure weight, so 11 oz shouldn’t be a problem.

It's nice to see a reasonable priced rod in a market of overpriced gear. This is a great looking rod and does exactly what I need it to do. Paired it with a saragosa 5000 it's a perfect match!

Very Beautiful. Very Powerful.

nothing compares to the technology this has and the price point.
Pros
  • light, powerful, quality, price, love the guides and action, casts very far.
Cons
  • the section that connects both rods together is not very stable (it popped off one time) and the top piece turned a little when casting. also the top piece is longer than the bottom piece making it harder to transport.

Can TD please provide some elaboration on this previous question & response. I own a 12' Prevail and while it is a capable rod, I would assume a 12' HD Rockaway would be a significant upgrade from a Prevail in weight, backbone and line/ lure rating.

Can this rod handle 7-8 ft sharks or is the Penn prevail a Better option?

1 Answer

The Prevail would be the better option.

1 Answer
Hi Tom, The Okuma RHD-S-1202H Rockaway HD Surf Rod Model: RHD-S-1202H; TackleDirect Code: OKM-1142 is a stiffer, and heavier duty than the Penn PRESFII2040S12 Prevail II Surf Spinning Rod. Both actions of the rod are the same. However, The Okuma is slightly stronger due to the fact that it has a higher Lure Weight rating up to 16oz. This makes this a good choice for a heavy chunking surf rod. The Penn PRESFII2040S12 Prevail II Surf Spinning Rod is also a stiff rod but is not as strong as the Okuma. The Penn can only has a rated lure weight of up to 8oz. If you are not casting above the 8oz lure range the Penn PRESFII2040S12 Prevail II Surf Spinning Rod is fine for fishing for sharks off the shore. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Which one will perform great with 2 to 3oz lure
1 Answer
Hi Roshan, From the Okuma Rockaway HD Surf Rod Series. I would recommend the 9ft Medium. Model: RHD-S-902M, TackleDirect Code; OKM-1137. https://www.tackledirect.com/okuma-rhd-s-902m-rockaway-hd-surf-rod.html This would work well with 2-3oz lures. You also can go to a longer size to the 10'6" model; https://www.tackledirect.com/okuma-rhd-s-1062m-rockaway-hd-surf-rod.html. These will both work well for your fishing application. Are these rods flexible or are they towards the stiff end?
1 Answer
Rod flexibility is something that comes with the rods power. Medium power rods are going to be flexible while heavy rods will be more towards stiff. These rods also sport a moderate fast- fast tip so you're going to feel lots of flexibility at the tip of the rod as well.

looking for a 9-10' surf rod and debating on the following, Shimano speedmaster, Okuma Rockaway HD, and Team Daiwa, out of the three, which would be best for mainly bait with 2-3oz weight and occasional throwing lures from the surf and lake shores. reel for now is a Daiwa BG 3000, but may be getting a 4000 in the future.
1 Answer
I would recommend the Team Daiwa Surf rod 9' two piece
