This rod is a work of art!
August 19, 2022
This rod is a work of art! It has a great feel and balances well with my Penn SSVI 4500. I appreciate TackleDirect it was very fast I received the rod on time from the day of purchase, their customer service was excellent as I had a few issues which were eventually corrected and they showed their confidence, which is a game changer. I will be doing much more business with TackleDirect altogether in the future. They also know how to ship the fishing rods...they pack them in very secure containers...

Very sensitive and casts great

Since buying the rod (9'), I have nothing but good experiences with the rod. Light, sensitive and can cast anything over 1 oz a good distance. Light enough for porgy and fluke, yet strong enough to handle them blues and heavy plugs out in the surf.

Quality Rod, Good Pricing
July 17, 2022
After weeks of research I finally landed on the ODM NXD-104 D.N.A. Surf Rod 10’. After hearing many reviews it was one of the best rods for the pricing. Still carries most of the great qualities of the more expensive rods but at a better price for this older generation model. I liked the quality, build, and sensitivity. Tackle Direct had a good turn around on processing and shipped quickly.

Hi Scott, I would recommend the 10'6" ODM NXD-1064 D.N.A Surf Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/odm-nxd-1064-dna-surf-rod.html This would pair great with your Van Staal VSX 200 for NJ surf fishing applications. However I would go up to a 11ft ODM NXD-118 D.N.A Surf Rod for the Cape Cod Canal. https://www.tackledirect.com/odm-nxd-118-dna-surf-rod.html This rod would be able to throw larger lures up to 8oz which is needed for certain conditions in the Canal. I am surf fishing with mostly 1.5-2 oz jigs and bucktails.  I do some SP Minnows (1oz) and some poppers up to about 3 oz.  Prefer 30lb braid.  Which would be better the 9' or the 10'?  Can you also recommend a reel pairing (Daiwa or Penn)?
1 Answer
I would recommend the 9' rod if primarily fishing bucktails on the lighter side, But since you are throwing heavier jigs and occasionally poppers i would think the 10' model would be best for your application,

I would pair that rod with either a Penn Slammer 4500-5500 or Daiwa BG MQ in the same size range. Daiwa Ballistic 5000-6000 if you want to keep the set up as light weight as possible

1 Answer
As long as you have room on the boat to use an 8' rod i dont see why not, I use the 7'6 1 pc model pretty regularly on the boat.

This rod would pair very well with a Saragosa 6000, this combo should be able to handle almost any inshore/nearshore species you would look to target

1 Answer
I would recommend the 9' ML, this rod is rated 1/2oz-3.5 so thatll give you plenty of range depending on what you are throwing. with 20# braid on a VR50 you will be able to make monster casts, and both the rod and reel are tough enough to withstand trophy size fish

How would the Stradic FL 4,000 with 20 lb braid pair with the 8 ft for SP minnows and smaller plugs?
1 Answer
Typically i would recommend at least a 5000 for surf casting purposes, but the Stradic 4000 and 5000 are identical reels, just with the 5000 adding a little more line capacity.

Pairing a Stradic 4000 or 5000 with this rod would do just fine with either the 7'6 or 8' ODM rod

Which Penn Spinfisher VI reel (4500 or 5500) would balance out best with the ODM DNA 9' rod?
1 Answer
Either reel would balance fine with this rod. the 4500 is a whole 6oz lighter therefore making it more comfortable casting for long periods, but has 5# less max drag.

If you are fishing heavy structure or rocks I would go with the 5500 just for the added stopping power

You can go with either size reel on this rod, they are very similar in weight and how they would balance out on the 8' ODM DNA Surf Rod. Since you are going with 15lb braid, we would recommend sticking with the 3500. Slightly lighter than the 4500, holds plenty of 15lb braid, and will balance out really well on the rod. Let us know if you have any other questions, more than happy to help.

Thinking of getting a 9ft.

Will be bank fishing for stripes most of the time but will occasionally hook up on the 50lbs+ sturgeons, will this rod be able to haul in sturgeons?
1 Answer
Hello Tony, This rod would be great for catching stripers. Should be able to handle sturgeons if you hook into one.
