Megabass PopMax top water popper, based on a hand-carved original by Yuki Ito, ups the ante of the well-respected PopX with a larger body and redesigned gill-system. In addition to the PopX's gill openings that allow for water to pass through, creating life-like bubbles and chugging-action, the PopMax features a unique gill system that consists of six water-intakes and a water chamber. The intakes channel water through the gills and out to the sides, creating a unique splashing/chugging action on the surface, while two intakes channel water into the internal chamber and out below the PopMax, generating enticing bubbles and disturbance that will catch the attention of fish. This system acts like a lip, utilizing the water pressure that is pushed through the lower chamber to keep the lure from skipping across the water, helping to keep the lure grounded so it can be worked faster. In addition, when the lure is paused, water flows out of the chamber, causing the PopMax to raise its head and survey its surroundings.

The PopMax can be worked like a conventional popper, and with gentle rod-tip action, the PopMax will roll-walk dynamically, combining the winning elements of both poppers and dog-walkers. For best results, fish the PopMax around rocky or riprap banks, over grass beds, or on shallow points early in the morning.

Versatile Work of Art!

I thought this was just another overpriced topwater to lure fisherman more than fish, but I'm glad I was proven wrong! It can pop out loud, walk smoothly across the water like a Lucky Craft Sammy, and even work like a pencil popper with gentle twitches! The beautifully detailed head isn't just for looks; it chugs more bubbles through the gills and is just satisfying to look and hear!
Pros
  • -Pop it, walk it, whatever suits you!
  • -Casts far
  • -Detailed colors
  • -Water intake chambers
Cons
  • -Price

Very nice popper. Easy to walk and easy to pop. The hooks are pretty good I have not had any problems with them yet. My go-to color is mat frog or pink bomb gill
Cons
  • A bit expensive, but works well

This lure continues to impress.Yesterday on the second cast along the edge I got an 8.64 pounder fishing the bank of a small community pond. The paint jobs are second to none, just did a head count, 31 PopMax alone not including a bunch of Popx. It beats the hell out of collecting baseball cards.
Pros
  • Pop it, twitch it, walk it.
Cons
  • I keep missing cool limited colors out of Japan.

Explosive strikes

Quality product, A bit pricey, but you come to expect that from megabass, but their products are top notch from the detailed finish to the hooks. open gill plates give it a unique " plop' that draws strikes from all depths.
