Designed to bring a new bag of tricks to the Magdraft's proven performance, the Megabass Magdraft Freestyle Swimbaits open the door to targeting big bass in places where these renowned swimbaits have yet to roam. Preserving the hard-thumping tail action and deadly head-shake of the original, the Magdraft Freestyle is a completely unrigged, allowing anglers to put the bait to use in ways that best suit their particular application. With a snub-nose design perfect for screw-lock hooks, a pre-cut hook slot in the belly, and recessed top-groove, the Freestyle flawlessly pairs with a 6/0 or 8/0 weighted swimbait hook. This rigging method is ideal for throwing into submerged vegetation, around laydowns and isolated cover, and skipping under promising docks and overhanging structure. If your target is residing in deeper water, the Magdraft Freestyle pairs equally as well on a heavy jig head to crawl chunk-rock, curve-fall river ledges, and main lake drop-offs. And of course, if the skinny water is more your speed, line-thru rigging can be particularly effective when targeting open shallows and flats. Regardless of how you choose to fish it, the proven Magdraft action and impeccable detail and coloration will prove to be productive for novice swimbait fishermen and big-bait enthusiasts alike.

Great swimbait that gets a lot of followers and bites. Great color patterns as usual from Megabass. Bait could be more durable, but will last with a little mend-it when it gets chewed up.

My favorite way to fish it is on a double fluke rig. on an owner beast hook these baits come through everything . in my experience these baits make it 4-5 fish before i need to take mend it to it. this is a great swim bait.

Just not durable enough at $6.50 for a plastic swim bait.

I hate to give this bait a bad review at all due to how well it swims and looks, but it just doesn't hold together for much more than a dozen +, gentle, casts. The bait looks and moves amazingly well in the water and with a little tweaking you can get a bit more life from it, however at $6.50 per plastic swim bait??? I just can't rectify it.
I rigged it with the 5/0 Trokar swim blade weighted swim bait hook and watch out if you can get one to bite in the first 10 or so casts. The problem lies in the small amount of material that is left between the pre-cut hook slot in the belly and recessed top-groove in the bait. It has a iridescent foil material cast into this area to add some real nice looks to it. However the foil doesn't laminate very well to the plastic and thus reduces the amount of material retaining the hook, thus allowing the hook to rip out the material between the top and bottom slots along the edge of the foil. The material is very soft (as it needs to be to give it such a great action) but it just doesn't have the durability or adhesion to the foil that needed to retain the hook after a small number of casts. If you skip this beast at all its done in just a few casts.
I was very disappointed as this really had me hyped after seeing it in the water after the first few retrievals. I pinned the hook in the second bait after the first one gave way and was able to gain a bit more life from the bait. I just can't justify the cost to durability ratio nor feeding toothpicks or spikes to my local bass population.
Pros
  • -Beautiful head and tail action
  • -Very realistic looking
  • -It has a gills, lips, eyes, dorsal fin, pectoral fins and even an anal fin!!! It's killing me.
  • -Perfect size for Slaunch Donkeys
Cons
  • -The darn thing can't retain a hook to save its life.
  • -Cost vs. longevity.
