The wild side to side action of the Skimmer is designed to leave ever widening boils behind the bait thanks to its weighted back end. As each darting action concludes, the bait slips away just barely ahead of the boil, similar to how baitfish narrowly escape the jaws of a surface feeding bass. If there’s ever anything that gets a non-committal bass to bite, it is other bass feeding in front of it. The action of the skimmer triggers a competitive feeding cue in finicky fish that may not be willing to bite.
