Redesigned for the 20-21 season, the Daiwa Proteus Boat Conventional Rods feature a rugged and powerful design to give you the upper hand over the toughest game fish. Designed with heavy lifting in mind, these long, fast action rods provide a super strong backbone for unmatched lifting power, and are a favorite among West Coast anglers for California yellowtail and bluefin tuna. Anglers in any fishery will benefit from having a Proteus on board any time where you need a little extra power to get big fish in the boat whether you're inshore or out in the deep. Built on blanks constructed from Daiwa's High Volume Fiber (HVF) carbon technology, the Proteus achieves the superior strength and rigidity needed for coastal applications while keeping the blank thin and lightweight for comfortable fishing. Also outfitted with Daiwa's X45 Technology, these rods are designed using a 45 degree bias construction that prevents ovalization and twisting of the blank for greater hoop strength under heavy loads. The blank construction is rounded out with Daiwa's Braiding-X design, where an outer layer of carbon tape is wrapped in a crossing diagonal pattern, giving the rod blank a striking appearance as well as improving power, operability, and sensitivity. All models are equipped Fuji FazLite Tangle Free K-Guides to prevent line tangles with braid and provide long accurate casts. The ultra durable EVA Grip provides a solid, infallible connection to the rod.

nice jigging rod
December 24, 2021
west coast style jig setup paired with accurate boss valient 400 I enjoyed jigging flat, butterfly and slow pitch style jigs. I had 2 busy jig trips for jumbo copper and vermilion rockfish and lingcod in Big Sur California and was impressed with this rod reel setup. the guides slant forward for what was advertised but sheding braid bunching up on the stick while jigging. the handle materials worked perfect. on my top 3 setups.
Pros
  • forwarded guides, shrink wrap handle materials and action ratings. great looking rod.
Cons
  • none for my use

A very durable rod
January 7, 2015
This is the first branded rod that I have used. I am using the 2.1m Proteus, and I have used it to catch queen fish from shore. So far, I have caught 11 of them (average of 10kgs each) and never had any problems. And the best one was when we went on boat fishing, a giant manta ray took our bait, probably around 50kgs, this rod gave a good fight for about 2 hrs. Although we lost the fight, the rod proved its worth as we caught another queen fish the following day as if nothing happened. :)
