Amazing Rod
March 30, 2018
As soon a i felt this series rod i was in love. Was not sure on the MH or H but settled on heavy. Its light enough to use in the bay fluking or out in the deep for seabass. Was not sure on this of the Trevala S but settled on this due to the limited life time warranty. The guides are small but i have had no issue.
Pros
  • Power
  • Weight
  • Warranty
Cons
  • Small Guides

great rod

Ive been using this rod on my party boat trips. perfect for fluke, sea bass and porgies. The rod has a nice backbone and is sensitive enough that you feel the slightest of hits. I like the longer butt which allows you support the rod against your forearm allowing you to use one hand /arm
Pros
  • light and strong
Cons
  • could be a little longer than the 6'4"

I have the ss64h and had a blast catching sea bass off of block island with it. It handled everything very well, I even caught a few nice cod on the drift. I am very impressed with it
Pros
  • Very lite
Cons
  • You need to know how to tie very small knots

If you are going to be using a wide range from 1-6oz the Heavy model DAI-2201 will be the best option!

Im looking at the proteus SS in a 6'6 MH, I do a lot of bottom fishing off the west coast for cods and lings, would the harrier slow pitch be a better rod for my needs? I was also wondering which rod is lighter?
1 Answer
Either rod will do just fine with your fishing application, the Harrier Slow Pitch is a much stronger rod and would give you more flexibility with lure weights as it has a max of 300g jigs opposed to the Proteus SS having 150g.

It says the rod is rated for Braid. Given the smaller sized guides, can you fish mono line on these rods? If so, what line rating do you think would be okay.

Which Daiwa or other brand reel would match best for this rod? Mainly be used for Northeast inshore to catch togs, sea bass, sheeps, etc. I have trouble finding reel that will sit low enough because the guides are very small. Regular conventional reels sit up so high compared to the position of the many guides on the rod. I don’t want to lose the sensitivity because the line is not straight but forced to be in a high angle closest to the reel.
1 Answer
I would recommend using the Daiwa Lexa 300 Type HD Baitcasting Reels, These reels have enough drag power and line capacity for tog, sheepshead, and seabass.
