Nicely made with a bad design flaw
October 3, 2020
The Lexa 400 is basically a solid competent reel. I have fished with one for about a year and have found that the line leveling guid that disengages on free spool is simply a bad design. After hauling in a recalcitrant Lingcod from 300 feet, the line guide may or may not be in line with line on the spool, and with the braided line dug into itself from the previous haul, you may literally have to pull the line off the reel on the next decent. No such problem with the Okuma Komodo, which is what I now use.
Pros
  • Solid, nicely made.
Cons
  • Disconnect of line guide in free spool is a source of real (no pun intended) frustration.

I learned to cast a with a baitcaster/conventional with this real and it was great. I had only experience with spinning gear prior to this real and the mag casting controls made it easy.

Great Musky Reel, also great for larger fish such as northern pike, catfish, large bass, salmon, redfish, etc
December 16, 2019
I bought this for casting for Muskys, and I am very happy with it. It casts really far and really smooth with negligible problems with spool overrun The drag sets easily, and the gear system is superb, handling even the toughest Musky. For the money, this is the best value I have ever found in a Musky reel, and I can use it for many other kinds of fishing as well.
Pros
  • Gret Gear system, great drag system,
Cons
  • Very Large

Awesome baitcaster
October 12, 2019
I already had one of these reels. Was out on a few overnight and day and a half trips with plenty of fishing hours going. I found more than a few times that the bite was on and although I had several different setups the Lexa was spot on. If a leader broke or I needed to tie on another hook, or another lure, not being the fastest guy to tie knots I went ahead and bought another Lexa. With at least 2 on the deck ready to go I was still able to out fish most of the other guys on the trips. The Lexa 400 casts so freakin far its incredible. In times where you need bait and lures as far away from the boat as possible this reel will get it done. The freedom of not having to worry that your line will backlash lets you fish with the utmost confidence. When I saw the price listed with Tackle Direct at $209 no tax no shipping I couldn't place my order fast enough. Basically I'm really stoked🤘🤘
Pros
  • Casting distance is on par with Shimano TranX at about half the cost.
  • It out performs Okuma Komodo.
  • Reel so far seems to be extremely durable.

I just wish that I knew about this guy earlier , because I would have gotten many different size for each of my poles. But I’ve already gotten another brand before the diawa lexa.
Pros
  • It came with the power handle, that?s the first thing I wanted on this reel.
Cons

Great reel for small surface irons and top water baits
August 13, 2019
I love fishing this reel with the smaller surface irons as well as stick baits when targeting California yellowtail and other pelagics. It’s makes it a breeze to fish straight spectra with a short topshot. Awesome price too!

The Very Best
July 20, 2019
I bought this reel for the start of rockfish season, and it has served me extremely well. I've caught a jackpot rockfish with this reel, and it didn't break. In fact, it is so well made and well crafted that I was able to reel in, albeit lose a MASSIVE lingcod. The feel of the reel is so nice, as well. It feels really comfortable when I palm the reel, and the power handle is very comfortable. I do wish that there are more left handed options, as well as lower gear ratios for this version of the Lexa. I take immense care of this reel, even though the reel is stainless steel, because it deserves that respect.
