A variety of lengths and tapers will help you dial in your desired technique, whether its casting lighter artificials great distances or slinging heavy sinkers and bait out to deep water where the big fish live. Solid rod - Striped bass and blues
June 26, 2022
Used my coastal sp for bass and blues, caught a 35lb striped bass on it so it can handle the mustard. Ended up snapping it when a seal grabbed my bluefish off Nantucket, cool looking rod, casts great, not sure how these other guys broke them so easy, it took a 300lb seal to finally add it to my rod-graveyard.
Pros
  • Looks good (unlike tsunami rods)
  • Stiff backbone
  • lightweight
Cons
  • kinda fat

Great rod, needs little better design.

The rod was great for the money, I feel like it could’ve used a 50/50 split instead of 70/30. Seems all the backbone is in the bottom half.

  • Love the way it feels in the hands
Cons
  • Rod tip snapped on me the second day of use

9' 1-4 oz.

I picked this rod up for lighter tackle shore fishing and i really enjoy it. I can still get pretty good distance if i'm throwing 1/2 oz jigs but the sweet spot really is that 1 1/2 oz to 2 oz range. Landed a 30 lb striper with it on my first outing with it throwing a weightless sluggo. Flicks it out there no problem. I do wish the butt section was a tiny bit thinner like the emblem but that's just me being picky. Good stick.

Broke it twice this year!
November 21, 2018
Unfortunately, I have had issues with the 10'6 1-4 oz rated rod. First time breaking it the top piece broke between the first and second guide while fighting a decent sized Jack Crevalle. I sent the rod back to Daiwa through warranty and received a new one 2 weeks later... same model. After 2 months it finally broke again when pulling up a 5 lb bluefish from the jetty. A couple well known youtubers have reviewed this rod and received multiple reports of the medium 1-4 oz models breaking. It was suggested that there is a manufacturing defect with these particular models. I have heard great things about the 11 foot MH but haven't tested it.
Pros
  • Very light weight, casts far, good sensitivity, smooth guides
Cons
  • Broke twice, weak rod specifically 10'6 1-4 oz, tip of the butt does not grip well with surfaces and slides easily

Not as good as the St. Croix Mojo, but it's alright. It works better with lighter plugs.
