Purchased two of these for land based shark fishing. Plenty of backbone to throw large baits while still being very light and handy.

Excellent for 8nbait!

I've used the 1102mhfs for 3 years and have been very pleased with the performance. I've got it mated to a Shimano C14 Ultegra 5500 with 40# PowerPro. Great combo and I've caught lots of bull reds and big black drum for the Padre Island surf. After hauling it around in the truck and dropping it on the beach, it still looks great. Guides and thread wraps still in perfect condition. Couldn't be happier!
Pros
  • Casting distance
  • Quality for the price
  • Durability
Cons
  • none

good fishing pool

Good fishing pool, however my brand new pool stuck together the 3rd time i use it. I had to return rod to Diawa it was to large to take in my car.
Pros
  • Good well balance rod
Cons
  • If it is brand new be cautious of the rod sticking on a hot day because the male & female ends are both graphite pieces which can be a problem on a hot day.

Hi,

What is the difference between fast action, medium action, and slow action.

I am looking for a rod to fish at the cape cod canal. If you ever fished there you need distance, accuracy, and strength because you are fight against current, rocks, and, possibly big stripers. Thank you.

1 Answer
Fisherman,

The Daiwa TD surf rod that would be best for fishing the Cape Cod canal would be TDSF1062MHFS (DAI-3474).  That's the new model, as the old model has been discontinued and may not be available.

As far as the Action types - 'Action describes how much of the fishing rod bends when you put pressure on the tip, and the speed with which the rod returns to its neutral position.'

  • An extra fast action rod bends just at the tip.
  • A fast action bends in the upper 1/3 to 1/4 of the rod.
  • A moderate-fast action rod bends over the lower 1/3.
  • A medium/moderate action rod bends over the last half.
  • A slow action rod bends all the way into the handle.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Watersedge fishing

Is the 12 foot spinning rod actually 6 to 16 oz? Is that rod stronger and more powerful than say the tica tc2 12 rod? Also, would this rod and the tica be good for sandbars and blacktips? What about bull sharks and tigers?
1 Answer
Yes that is the correct rating for this rod, and the Tica tc2 12'XXH is rated 6-12.

I think both these rods would handle most land based sharking applications, these powerful creatures need powerful rods to handle them and this rod fits the bill.
