Ideal for slinging baits great distances from any coastline, the Daiwa Team Daiwa Surf Spinning Rods offer advanced performance for a wide variety of surf fishing techniques. Whether you're looking for a pencil popping rod for Northeast beaches, a "weight and bait" stick for Hatteras Island, or a rod to heave up to a pound of lead well past the breakers, the Team Daiwa Surf Rods have you well covered. Blanks in the Team Daiwa Surf Series are made with Daiwa's exclusive High Volume Fiber (HVF) construction from a low-resin, high-modulus carbon graphite material. This construction keeps the blanks light and sensitive while providing fantastic strength. Both casting distance and accuracy is enhanced thanks to X45 technology, where a 45 degree bias construction eliminates blank twist and keeps all components properly aligned during the cast. These rods have a custom look with Fuji black matte hooded reel seats that are exclusive to the series.

Features:

  • Daiwa Exclusive High-Modulus (HVF) Graphite
  • X45 Bias Construction
  • Fuji Alconite Ring Guides with tangle free K-Shape Frame
  • Fuji Special Black Matt colored hooded reel seats
  • Limited 5 Year Warranty

Great Rod. Casts a mile
April 26, 2022
I picked up a TDSF 1202MHFS last week and headed to the beach. This rod was an upgrade from a Shakespeare 12' Breakwater Ugly Stik that I never liked using because it felt heavy, clumsy and delicate. I paired it with a old model Okuma Avenger 80a spinning reel. I only caught two skate in about 10 hours of fishing but I would say the rod performed excellently. The lure weight rating is 2-9 oz. I used a 5 oz. sputnik sinker and 6 oz. pyramid sinker, both with a whole clam as bait. The rod loaded perfectly at both these weights and cast for very long distances. I think weight ratings are accurate. I liked this rod so much that I will be upgrading the reel so I can use it more often.
Pros
  • light weight, action, sensitivity
Cons
  • none so far

I bought the 12 foot Team Daiwa Model No: TDSF1202MHFS. It's advertised as rated for 6-16 oz. lure rating and 20-60lb line rating on TD's and other websites as well. But printed on the pole itself, it states it actually has a 2-9 oz. lure rating and 15-40lb line rating. On Daiwa's own website they claim to build it with Fazlite ring guides but attached to the pole was a tag that said it had Alconite ring guides. Daiwa makes great products but I felt the need to inform the buying public of the misinformation so you can make a more accurately informed buying decision.

Real light Rod.
October 16, 2020
Bought the 9 ft med rod and it casts 3/4-2 oz jigs and swim baits about 70 yard easy. Don't even have to whip it. Paired w/ a saltist 4000 and 20 lb daiwa j
Braid ?8 (island blue). Smoothest casts i've ever had. You can feel every bite. The 2 pieces when connected do not come off easy.
Pros
  • Lightweight, strong backbone, still sensitive enough to feel small bites.

A favorite west coast fishing surf rod

I bough the 9’ MHF and absolutely loved it when casing fish finder rigs with 3-4 oz pyramid or coin weights. Paired it with my BG 4000 and Clash 5000.
70% of my reels and 30% of my rods are Daiwas.
The only downside which you need to consodering when buying Daiwa Products is the turnaround time for warranty claims.
While it is very easy ti reach customer service the turnaround time (in my case 7 month) for a warrantly claim and the fact that they want u to aend back the whole broken rod not just the broken part makes not convinient at all when you thino you are dealing with a large outfit such as Daiwa.
The only reason giving it 4/5 starts is the warrnty claim experience and the leg work and calls it takes to follow up.
Pros
  • Quality
  • Light
  • Accurate
Cons
  • Warranty Claim of you have to file one

The line weight rating is the rod manufacture's suggestion on where that rod will perform its best same can be said for lure rating most ratings though vary from company to company.

Hello, is the 10-FT Medium TDSF1002MFS a 50/50 split? And are these rods designed for use with Monofilament, or are the guides smaller - optimized for Braid? Thanks.

Luke,

These rods have a 50/50 split. You can use braid or mono on these guides, however braid will give you optimal casting distance and line capacity.

The Daiwa TDSURF902MFS Team Daiwa Surf Spinning Rod would be the best rod to match with the 4000 Pursuit reel you have chosen. I would advise using a heavier reel in the 5000 or 6000 size and a 10' team Daiwa rod if your targeting larger sharks.
