Kayak Cart-Mini
June 8, 2014
I ordered this Mini Cart from TackleDirect online on a Friday and received it the following Tuesday. It was very well packaged, all I had to do was get some silicone spray lubrication for the wheel bushings and I was ready to go. Of course I tried it with the Kayak loaded with all my fishing gear and rolled it around in my yard to see if everything worked to my satisfaction. It was easy to install and use, I get better at it every time I use it, meaning, to put it in the right spot under the kayak and removing it, folding up secure it behind my milk-crate with one bungee cord. (it comes with me on the water just in case I have to portage to a different body of water)
Pros
  • The construction and the quality of the material used in this product is top notch, good wall thickness on the tubing used, all the hardware used is Stainless Steel, the nylon strapping used on the cart and for securing the cart under the kayak is just the right thickness and stiffness. The cart is held in the closed position by these rubber detents when not in use and you pull to open and the rubber detent hold it open. It has a leg you pull open so the cart stands up on its own. The wheels are also good quality material and assembly, brass valve stem for input of air (I didn't have to put air to the tiers) the hub & bushing on the wheels are held in place with four S/S screws, I have to guess it allows for replacement of bushings if needed. I wash everything when I get home to get the salt off and any grim that get on the tiers and they clean easily.
Cons
  • I had to deburr the sharp edges of the holes on the axel because removing and putting on the wheels took too much of and effort for my liken. Not really a Cons just my preference... (I'm a mechanic... LOL)

these wheels are ridicously handy. I use them all the time with my kayak, and I would not buy a kayak without a set of these.
Pros
  • fat tires roll in sand well

I have a hobbie outback peddle drive kayak will it work for this model?
1 Answer
Hello Lance, the hobbie should work with this model as the kayak would just rest on the top of the pad.

Is there a way to strap the cart to one end the kayak?
1 Answer
You could possibly put a strap underneath the pads of the rack and bring it up through the top of the kayak and cross the straps and run the straps back down to the rack to strap down.

I have a Hobie ProAngler. I hear talk of needing an extra piece when buying the wheelers. What is it called and how does it go on?
1 Answer
We are not sure what the extra part is. The cart is 22.5" wide at the axle, while the PA 14 is 38" wide and the PA 12 is 36" wide. Both of the PA's exceed the carry capacity of this cart which is 88#. We suggest speaking with both Hobie and Wheeleez for more information. Hobie 1-760-758-9100 Wheeleez 707-751-3999 Both companies are in California.
