So far it’s been good.
April 12, 2021
Super light, seems very durable, have caught 2 decent sized striped bass from the surf (43”/46”). Looks great too! Haven’t dunked it or had in the water yet but hope it holds up to what they claim it can do.
Pros
  • Interchangeable Handle, submersible, looks great, drag
Cons
  • None so far

Simple is best
February 8, 2021
From a personal perspective, the greatest advantage of this reel is its simplicity. This simplicity is the same as seen in previous works(vanstaal, zeebaas, etc.) by the designer.
Also, the fact that you can do maintenance by yourself is attractive. Recent luxury reels are not allowed to be maintained by the owner himself.
Pros
  • Simplicity
Cons
  • Spool too small.

how smooth is the drag when fighting a  large fish for 20 or 30 mins.    Does it stick or stay smooth coming off the reel?

1 Answer
According to Visser Reels, The Visser reels use a Dual Pentium Drag System that creates a smooth and powerful drag with a wide range. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Hows the casting distance on them do they have lot of bird nest like the Penn reel  or would it be better to go with the van staal 75 over the #3 visser
1 Answer
Hi Tony, The casting distance in between the Visser #3 and the Van Staal VR75 would be comparable. Your most likely going to get a similar casting distance for each reel with a marginal difference. Each reel is a great choice. I personally would recommend the Van Staal VR75 VR Spinning Reel due to the durability of these reels and the abundance of reel parts and the convenience of having it serviced by multiple Van Staal warranty centers. https://www.tackledirect.com/van-staal-vr75-spinning-reels.html Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. What visser is equivalent size to VS 200
1 Answer
Hi Rick, The closest to a Van Staal VSX 200 would be either models: No. 6 or No. 7 Visser Reel. TackleDirect Code: VSR-0004-2, and VSR-0005-2. that has the closest body size to this reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/visser-spinning-reels-no-6.html.https://www.tackledirect.com/visser-spinning-reels-no-7.html. However, the spool is smaller than the Van Staal 200 and holds less line than the No. 6 Visser. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Have a brand new Yamaga Blue Sniper 106HFS. Throw monster plugs 105mm 240mm 70-180g. Heading on a Rooster Fish and BlueGT  trip. Will the #8 handle the task? There a larger spool option available? Possible to hold 400yds of70# VarivasPremium braid.

I would suggest a reel such as the Shimano Stella SW C Spinning Reels: https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-stella-sw-2019-spinning-reels.html I would also recommend the Daiwa Saltiga 2020 Spinning Reels: https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-saltiga-saltwater-spinning-reels.html. Can you tell us more about your fishing application? Shimano Twin Power SW C and Daiwa Certate SW would also be fine options. Please let us know what else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Which number would be equivalent to Van Staal VR 175? And is this reel ambidextrous?
1 Answer
The closest to a Van Staal VR 175 will be either a No. 5 or a No. 6 in terms of line test. The Van Staal has a much higher drag rating and can hold much more line on the spool than the visser can so there isn't an exact match but those would be closest. This reel also does offer the ability to change the retrieve making it either a left or right hand retrieve.

Hello...I have a Century Slingshot SS1265 (10'6", 1-3oz) and am considering pairing it with a new Visser reel - I just throw plugs, never bait.  Would you recommend the #5 or #6 in terms of size?

Thnx...!

1 Answer
Either option would be a good choice for that rod. The #6 model may balance slightly better.

What size would you pair with an Gloomis SJR722 6' jigging rod?
1 Answer
The smallest they make this reel is a #3 which is roughly equivalent to a 3000 size reel. i think even this size may be a bit overkill for the rod you are pairing.

But if you are sold on this reel i would recommend the smallest size for your 6' jig rod

Would a #5 or #6 pair best with a 10 ODM DNA?

I would recommend a #5 size reel, but there's no wrong answer between the two, there are no 'reel' advantages or disadvantages for either of these sizes
