The VM275 is known as the” Laviathan Killer” has a reputation of being extremely powerful and overbuilt. I use this real on the boat . It is extremely strong and versatile. I pared it with an 80 class 7 foot spinning rod . Use it for casting at tuna and even bottom fishing . Drag is super smooth even when almost fully cranked down . Reel feels like it’s up to the challenge of any task . I’ve had it for 3 years now and have done nothing to it but fish and it still feels like brand new . I was so impressed with Van Staal that I purchased a VR series for my surf rod .

reel is heavy but I already expected that from the reviews I was reading not as smooth as my shimano reels but this reel can get a beating. I can already tell the this reel is built like a tank and it will last for a long time.

Just like advertised, can handle everything you cast it to. Paired with a Phenix Black Diamond and
have yet to be overmatched. Definitely a boat reel, heavy...too heavy to be casting all day. Even with
money tied up in the combo, it often stays in the rod holder while the lighter cheaper gear gets the bulk
of the work. Big dolphin and 100 lb tarpon no problem for this thing.

I bought this reel specifically for medium sized bluefin off Cape Cod. Upon taking it out of the box and spooling it I could tell it would do the trick. It casts extremely well and it just feels bomb proof.

As of 2/8/2017 I can't give you an all included price. You would pay $998 USD for the 3 reels + shipping cost shown at checkout. Duty/Tax would be your responsibility when it arrives from the carrier.
We are implementing a new international checkout right now where you will be able to see those import fees upfront and also PREPAY them if you like.

Im looking for a surf fishing reel for shark fishing for an 11 ft st croix legend that will hold 450 yds or more of 50 ld braid, i see other reviews saying this is not a good reel for surf fishing are they talking about casting with plugs and such, isnt my application different would this reel suit me or should I be looking at something else?

It would work for that, but it is designed as more of a boat reel. Ideally you would want to use conventional setups and kayak your baits out but for casting with that rod I would take a look at the Penn Spinfisher 8500LL.

No. The VM275 reel is actually very large and heavy. It is designed for Offshore uses such as Tuna. Go with a VS150 (bail less) or a VSB150 (bail). Either one of these reel is perfect for a 9' rod.

This is a VERY HEAVY reel designed more for offshore fishing than surf casting. If you are looking for a distance casting reel, I suggest looking at the Shimano Aero Technium (SHM-2814). It is design for distance casting in the surf. it pairs perfectly with the Shimano Tiralejo 12' rod (SHM-2820).
In all honesty, the Van Staal you mentioned will be too heavy, wear you out, and not cast nearly as far. If you are sold on the Van Staal, look at a 250. It will still not cast as far as the Shimano though.
