No where as good as the originals
July 25, 2022
Rod butt was shortened....now too short. No rubber gimble cover. Heavy metal eyes add unwanted weight. All changes that were supposed to improve the rod did the opposite. I will not be buying another unless they revert back to the way they were made several years ago.
Pros
  • Good blank.
Cons
  • Rod is heavier with metal eyes
  • Rod butt is waaaay too short now.
  • No rubber cover for butt gimble.

Great price for a solid rod.
September 2, 2021
I bought a couple of these in the 12-25# line 7' model, intending to use them as a general purpose rod. They work well for soaking baits, live or chunk, also flatlining for kings, you can troll with them too (caught kings and spanish both, as well as a couple bonita). The rod is a bit bulky, but can be used to jig, at least in the shallower 30-60 foot deep wrecks near shore. I have also used it as a pier rod and caught some 3-4 pound jack crevalle. Working a lure and casting a lot is a workout with this paired with a 5000 class reel, but for the price its hard to beat. I like the no insert guides on it too, I have had a lot of rods where the insert chips or cracks.
Pros
  • Great price, no inserts in the guides, nice warranty
Cons
  • bit bulky, not great for throwing/working artificial baits

Will throw heavy weight
Pros
  • Strong rod
Cons
  • Big, thick, and heavy. Definitely use this to cast big baits to sit a while. Not for lures in the surf.

it won't handle eight ounces
March 8, 2021
It says 5 to 8 oz, but it'll never do 8. If you want to sling 5 a better distance, it'll work, but get yourself a proper surf rod. This isn't it.

Ugly Stik - Beautiful Deal

Quality surf rod. Excellent company to buy from. Action is great. Rod handles well. Load it up and sling it out of sight. In fact, think I'l buy a 2nd one from Tackle Direct right now.
Pros
  • Ugly Stik quality - you know what you are getting. Tackle Direct is the best place to buy... again you can count on them.
Cons
  • None

15ft surf fishing rod
November 21, 2020
This rod paired with a daiwa 8000 make a great casting combination for land based shark fishing. The 15ft is longer and larger to transport. But I also have a few 12ft versions and the extra 3ft does help with casting. I have not been able to find a better rod for the price.

Tough rods and great value
February 6, 2020
I have two of these that I use mostly for casting, bottom fishing and some trolling. The rods are very tough and for $60 they are a great value. I've overloaded these rods many times when trolling and pulling up ghost crab pots and they don't break.

I'm looking for a medium/ medium heavy with a mod. fast/ fast action that is 9/ 10 ft BUT I could find a rod with those standards but most rods recommended line weight is 12-20 but I want a rod I can put a 6000 reel on for jetty fighing for sharks or big jack crevalles so I was gonna use stronger line like between 40-50 lbs test I'm just a little stuck on finding the right rod cause I don't want a super long and stiff action rod when I'm fishing so any help would be great
1 Answer
The Shimano Tiralejo Surf Spinning Rod in the 10 foot 30-65 line weight would work for how and what you're fishing for.

could you pair the 12' ugly stick bigwater with Diawa BG 4000?
1 Answer
Hi Austin, The BG 4000 would be a little small for that rod. Instead I would recommend a Daiwa BG8000 BG Saltwater Spinning Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-bg8000-bg-saltwater-spinning-reel.html This would pair and balance nicely with your 12ft Shakespeare Ugly Stik bigwater. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Is the rated line in lb for mono line or braid ?
1 Answer
This is a monofilament rating. These can surely handle braided line though and you could go slightly heavier on the braid than the mono rating.

Can I pair a USBWB1025S662 with a saragosa 10k? or can you recommend something more suitable? looking for 2 piece rod for boat fishing
1 Answer
It's hard to recommend this rod for a Saragosa 10k size reel without knowing the kind of fishing you are looking to do, with that being said these rods are tanks, and will be able to handle most of anything you throw there way.

I would assume that this reel might be a little overkill for this UglyStik rod, maybe downsize to a 6000 or 8000 size reel for this rod. I can also recommend this uglystik rod:

Are these rods rated for braided line ?

Thank you

1 Answer
Line ratings on these are your traditional monofilament ratings, you can surely use braid on these though and go a class or two higher in braid.

Hello I am interested in buying this road and a few other times, your shipping methods with DHL shows the items will arrive here in the UK within 4 days.

I just wanted to confirm if this is guaranteed.

Best wishes,

Mustafa

1 Answer
Hi Sir! It would be preferable for you to order on Monday so that you could have it by the end of the week or the beginning of next week. That 4 day time frame is an estimate and it depends on if we are backed up in packaging and shipping orders. There is a possibility that it could get to you within four days and there is a possibility that it might take longer.
